From suggestions on another post I have been waiting for Darksiders to go on sale to satisfy a little God of War need I had.. Well its on sale now on steam for anyone who is curious...

BUT.. just a word of caution..

during the first startup i noticed it acutally updated some DirectX components and I raised an eyebrow as to why.. the game wouldnt run as the screen kept minimizing... i went to whitelist the .exe, and also noticed the white listing features in the nvida config were gone.. I restarted and they came back but new something had messed with the nvidia drivers..

After the install on the first good startup I noticed the video was stuttering on the opening sequence.. the game was defaulted to 1280x768 res as well, and was running choppy..

I tried bumping up the res just because it was the only option and my mx11 shut down completely (as in just off, no B/S or anything) after about 5 seconds of play  .. the base plate was really hot, and since it shutdown I didn't have any numbers to look at (not logging heat at the moment)..

    Good news though,,
I reinstalled the nvidia drivers, checking the clean install box (running the 266.58 currently) and restarted.. the system has been running Darksiders smooth and cool @ 1366x768 and the game runs great..

hope this is helpfull if anyone else is thinking of trying it out..

Cool game BTW, the setting is great, ok sure its a lot like GoW, but they have taken the game in a unique direction.. worth the 8 bucks if ya got it!

interesting, never had that prob. i been running 260.99, i bought in december for 7.50 and played 30 hours with no crashing.

video stutter is a known issue, too lazy to fix, i just put on subtitles and called it a day =)

its God of war + Zelda for those curious.

many games install the base directx runtime component by default. As a general rule of thumb, I always will run the web runtime directx installer to be sure a given title has not installed an older version. its perfectly safe to do so and just an extra step to take if you want piece of mind. On several occasions I have noted the web runtime installer will actually find updates after installing a title which installs its own DX component.

Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

As for the problem you experienced, its not uncommon. A reinstall of the NV display driver appears to have corrected your issue and this is the first step folks should try when running into this type of behavior.

Actually it updated components to the SDK for directx. Not something I usually use as an end user, just threw me for a loop when I saw a couple dates come up as old as 2006 in the install files, and nothing newer than 2010. Still a little clueless as to what it changed, especially after reading it was not an issue for Intangble, but just wanted a fix so didn't give it much effort..

I haven't proactively updated DX since probably DX9c on xp ages ago but thats a good link to check-thanks. Looks like i was still up to date as it didn't update anything, but I have on occasion had to install older legacy DX media formats for some older games. Just haddn't seen that logo come up in an install for a long time.
