Nvidia Optimus 265.90 (Community Built Drivers) for Alienware M11xR2 (ONLY!)

    -= Windows 7 64bit - Download Here (Updated with INF Version 2) =-

    Punkbuster Fixed - Thanks Nvidia!

    Important Information
There is probsbly a reason Nvidia has not officially released these for Optimus yet. USE THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND WATCH FOR ANY POTENTIAL HEAT OR STABILITY ISSUES. I want to thank everyone who has contributed to putting these together and testing these. This driver package was created by combining Optimus settings and update files from 260.99 Verde with the 265.90 Quadro drivers. This means it is not a full 256.90 Optimus driver in any sense of the term. There are also new dlls registered for optimusmft (the assumption is they are similar to nvdecodemft) they are experimental and may be removed if there are problems. I am most appreciative of everyone contributions on this one. DaneGRClose has done some very extensive testing and he and THX5334 have confirmed no punkbuster issues for at least a few matches prior to posting this.

    Problems/Issues
Some people are reporting issues with various games including some not loading. (I have to assume Nvidia is delaying their next official release to fix these issues.)

Jan 3rd 2010 Update: For even newer drivers check Kopichas 266.44 package for M11xR2. They also include the punkbuster fix.

Regarding the GPU clocks, I have that same issue currently with version 260.99. Clocks stay constant unless I run GPUz. 1st screen is just normal idle, second screen is right after I open GPUz within about 15seconds clocks drop. I am monitoring clocks with the sidebar widget and GPUz. My settings are set to use IGP for the desktop so you would think the 335m would definitely drop the clocks if it is not even being used.
If I close GPUz clocks go right back up and stay there. As long as GPUz is open clocks up-clock and down-clock accordingly.

Could this possibly be due to the fact that you're card is switching when GPUz is closed and those clocks are the default values or possibily the intergrated card? I dont know I'm just thinking outloud here.

And yes finally a release with punkbuster fix, thank you thank you thank you thank you, i cant thank enough I will try these right away!!! :D

btw what gadget is that geforce one called?

You know could be, the IGP run around 200 and 480 during idle so I don't know why the GT335m would run flat out if it is not being used. Maybe my power setting? I run at hi-perfromance when plugged in.

The Gadget is GPU Observer: OrbLog ,I like because it needs nothing else to run.

Guys, the clock issue was semi-fixed with a restart. I had not restarted after the last driver reinstall when the fixed clock issue happened. Now the only glitch I have noticed is when I turn the computer on the clocks stay at full 450 clocks even at idle with a tweaked white list until ThrottleStop is opened and enabled, literally within 1 second or less of ThrottleStop being enabled clock behavior returns to normal with the standard low idle and 450 when a 3d application is opened. This driver package took a lot of hard work from Nautis as well as a few other people so download it and thank him.

I can confirm now after about 10 online matches of BC2 that the PB issue is fixed, at least for me it is. I can also confirm that responsiveness has improved and there is an improvement in frame rate and overall performance. Before this driver I wasn't able to play certain games like FO:NV for more than 5-10 mins without game crashes and now everything I've played(SC2, MW2, BC2, FONV, FO3) has ran smooth as butter. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM or I'm sure Nautis would be more than happy to help as well.

As always if you guys run into any additional issues or problems post it on here so we can get it worked out, at the rate Nvidia is moving we may never see a PB fix that's official so let's get it running for everyone.

GadgetBoi- Your issue sounds like you need to dial you whitelist in a little more, the Nvidia card constantly runs because of the way the Optimus in the R2 works but should not run at full clocks unless there is a 3d Program opened or a driver issue. 260.99 ran fine for me without throttlestop enabled so it's not 260.99 which makes me think it's something within your whitelist/Nvidia Control Panel.

MassivB-The idea of his GPU running on GPUz is likely if he hasn't changed it in his whitelist. I've set my whitelist and other settings to where EVGA Precision only monitors the 335m but the program itself runs in the Intel when opened if that makes sense. Everyone may want to do the same with whatever monitoring program you're using as you could be getting false readings if it's set otherwise.

The only thing that doesn't work correctly is the clocks for me, once throttlestop is enabled and running in the background it works 100%. The clocks is something probably in either the .inf or could be just a glitch from a custom made driver. Either way it's definitely worth the download, especially if you want to play games that utilize PB.

Okay Thanks, I'll check my whitelist. I do know I have GPUz set to use the IGP. If any program is using the 335m, it should show up in the GPU activity icon, right? When the clocks are full-on at idle, activity area shows none. I'll probably end up doing a driver re-install since 265.90 behaves the same.

On the PB front, I installed 265.90 and have been playing BFBC2 off and on for over an hour and no PB errors or game kicks so this is working great for me.

Thanks for the work and effort on this.

Yeah.. I am comparing the INF in this driver vs optimus settings in other drivers in hopes that this issue is due to a setting. With so many people demanding a fix for punkbuster I figured it was worth the release at this point. I have some ideas that may fix it and some that may help improve performance a little more. More soon.

Should I clear out the older driver, clean it with DriverSweep, then install this one?

I would recommend it, something with the clean install doesn't work 100% on this. I used clean install on it one of the many installs I did and the 260.99 still remained, 265.90 was the acting driver but there were bits and peices of the old driver left. Use driver cleaner, then do clean install in the driver to ensure all of the old driver is gone.

AFAIK Driversweeper does not remove entries from the Driver Store/Repository and I have seen this cause rare issues in the past. With that said I know a ton of people who use and swear by it for every driver install. The idea is that there may be entries or files that get left over from previous drivers and they could potentially cause issues with new installs. If a driver is setup properly there should be no leftovers upon uninstall. Unfortunately, since there are many ways to update a driver and many modified drivers where the uninstall/removal process is not taken into account leftovers can indeed happen.

With Nvidia Installer 2 (260 Series and up) Nvidia has included a Clean Install option under advanced. The following was posted on Nvidias blog about this feature:
I personally try not to overdo it with driversweeper, as some like to do, because I do not know what it is removing. I do use driversweeper on occasion though. I have been using the clean install option built into the driver installer more and more. It all comes down to personal preference really.

These drivers are sweet. Installed them, ran Gamebooster, did a reboot and voila! They work perfectly, and I've been kicking a$# on the Punkbuster servers. Also, the M11x R2 fully loaded model I'm testing this on is extremely cool on a desk. In fact, it's cooler than ever.

Have you monitored your clocks to see if there have been any issues without running TStop in the background LaptopMemo?

    One: what is TStop?

Two: I've been running everything normally, on a corporate test unit from Alienware, and it's smooth sailing on everything. Even better graphics performance as well, even with Gamebooster off.

LaptopMemo-ThrottleStop, it's a program to change CPU profiles with. So absolutely nothing has been running in the background them I'm guessing? Check to see if your gpu is running at a constant 450mhz(the full 3d clocks) while not running anything 3d. Mine stuck at 3d clocks on the desktop or anything and would not downclock.

Zuluuk- Did you get a pop up about the driver being digitally signed/verified? If you did did you click install driver anyway in the installer?

    Hi,

    I'm having Punkbuster issues aswell.
I found this through google, I'm not extremely good with the technical stuff. would this fix work for my laptop aswell? if it doesn't anywhere there is a fix for me?

NVIDIA said they are working on a fix, but I see the term 'soon' too often, to my dislike.

I attached a dxdiag.txt file and a .txt file with all the info of my laptop and Driver (NVIDIA Geforce 425M). I upload these txt files because im not sure whats relevant.

on a side note, I can't seem to be able to download the newest NVIDIA driver, 260.99, It says it can't find a compatible operating system or something, although I made sure I downloaded Win7 compatible driver.

hope anyone can help or redirect me, thanks

edit: just noticed this is Alienware, so im probably wasting your time :p

This specific modified driver is for the M11xR2 only, but the premise behind it is the same. I am working on a more universal driver that I hope to cover most if not all Optimus notebooks. I have a feeling Nvidia may beat me to the punch though.

EDIT: There are sections on notebookreview that cover almost all brands ( click here). Asking your question in the correct section may get you a better response on your 260.99 issues.

I have been able to run several iterations of 3DMark06 with this driver. So far I am very happy with the results. Here is my most recent run:
    CPU OC'd to 166
    GPU OC'd noted in screen
    Throttlestop enabled and TDP@30 TDC@60

I normally do a custom installation and this was the reason why it failed, I have reinstalled using the express option and everything worked fine.

    Game tried so far:
    COD black ops
    COD 4
    BC2
    SC2

I am actually getting better fps with these drivers than the official drivers.

Been getting better performance even in games where I'd get 60 FPS (Counter Strike Source). It's been flawless. Also YouTube videos in 1080p and 720p load extremely quickly, and my Wi-Fi has always been very good from the start.

I am hesitant to try these because what ever drivers I am running right now work with BFBC2 already (installed them around 6 months ago?). What would be the main benefit besides the punkbuster support?

Shanley- No the info is not included in the package on page 1, there is another inf on the bottom of one of Nautis's comments on page 2 that you have to put it manually.

Nautis- The little bit I played with it last night it seems to be pretty close to the same, I'm gonna continue messing with it with the few things I have ;) and find an optimal balance now that we have figured out the clocks issue.

Edit: These seem like great drivers, be sure to thank the Nvidia driver development team who are the true heros in this (they are the ones who make the drivers after all, I just package them and make them install with specific settings.) There was a lot of community involvement in working out everything on this one (remember I don't have an M11xR2 or Optimus) so a huge thank you to everyone involved. I am going to continue to look at things but I guess that means no version 3 of the INF needed. Does there seem to be any changes or issues with videos playing? any sleep/resume issues? can the backlight still be adjusted? any issues at all? :D

Nautis, you're a saint. You don't even own one of these XD

I have a feeling Nvidia waits for you to screw with the INF so they can just take it, tweak it, and release it, lol

I've created 10 different versions(packages) of the driver based on what I have, I'm going to have a late night testing all of them in these areas:

Game Performance, PunkBuster, Sleep/Resume, Videos, Clocks, Backlight Adjustment

If anybody can think of any other areas that they can think of to test specifics on each one then let me know and I'll do it. I will post results probably tomorrow morning and be in contact with Nautis on my finds so we can dial it in 100% on everything :D

Several versions of drivers have had my screen flickering almost every time I resume from sleep and plug the display port through a DVI adapter into my Samsung 2333 TV/Monitor. I'm not sure if it's the drivers or faulty hardware, but given the nature I want to say drivers. A reboot fixes the issue, and I haven't been able to test if it still happens with the drivers posted in this thread yet
