Just tested it today w/ 275.24 (I think) beta drivers from nvidia. Works fine, and I got as high as 80 FPS on Parish with all settings high.
I tip my hat to you Nvidia. 'Nuff said.

The release notes this looks most appealing!
"Increases performance by up to 12% for dual-core CPUs in CPU-limited cases." -
How did you get these to install? I got the "no supported hardware" garbage.
-
-
Nope R3. I have this error all the time with any of the newer drivers.
It's driving me insane. Get it? Driving.
Oh man, hilarious... -
12 percent is awesome
-
-
Can't find the modded.inf
And I can't figure out how to mod it on my own.
Help anyone? -
Figured it out!
-
Has anyone else lost the 'change desktop resolution' option in Nvidia control panel?
-
I believe that was lost before this version.
-
-
Is this driver for the R2 or R1?
-
R2! it installed fine on mine.
-
R2 user here. This beta driver so far so good. Its smooth on The Sims 3, while its previous driver (after 270 series) makes the game jerky and a nightmare to load.
Plus, it doesnt overhat my lappy anymore. Although, this is a new mobo so I wouldnt know. -
It will work on the R1, but you will lose the ability to switch to integrated graphics.
It will not install on a R3 unless you use a modded inf file (perhaps xtravbx will upload the modded inf file for you R3 users if you ask nice)
Cheers,
Stain -
it works on the r1 too in discrete mode. im using these now. i dont care about switching graphics so i keep the GT335 on.
-
-
i don't see that in the options.
-
I cant get this to work on my r2 no compatible hardware
-
wow this has seriously change my system...mmmmm
-
How are you guys getting this to work with the R2? I keep getting " The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."
-
can someone please post a copy of the modded inf file or instructions on how to install the driver? thanks
-
For those getting: " The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."
Make sure its 64 bit, Laptop, Windows 7 version of the file. If you get anything other than that it will not be compatible. -
I have the 64 bit version and I can see the 335m in the inf file so I dont need a modded INF I cant figure out why it won't work originally downloaded it from nvidia after that didnt work I downloaded it from 3d guru and it still wont work
-
For me the problem lies in the fact that the NVIDIA Update Components portion of the driver fails to install. Tried many different ways of installing it.
-
I had the same issue. The INF needed to be modified for it to install on my system, even though the GT540M is listed as a compatible device.
If you need help modifying the INF, please let me know. -
Do you have the inf as an attachment or did you modify it yourself? -
It needs to be modified per system.
Here's a quick run down by memory -
Open up device manager.
Go to display adapters, then choose your Nvidia GPU.
Right click on the Nvidia GPU and choose "properties."
Choose the details tab.
At the property drop down, choose "Hardware ID"
You will then see 4 strings of text in the window below.
Choose the 2nd longest string - the longest probably has REV_0 or something on the end of it. We want the one right below that. Copy and paste that into a notebook text file on your desktop or something so we can access it after that.
Close out of device manager. You know have your hardware ID for your Nvidia GPU - this needs to be manually added to the NVAM.INF file - w/ a few additional parameters.
The NVAM.INF file is found in the extracted/failed Nvidia install directory. C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\275.27\Vista 64-bit\International\Display.Driver\nvam.inf
Open that up in notepad.
You are now looking for the section all the way at the bottom. The lines we're concerned with will be something like this
NVIDIA_DEV.0CAF.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M"
What we are going to do is find the line that has your graphics card in it!
There will be duplicates. I have no idea what the duplicates mean! But here is what I did and it worked.
Find the section in the nvam.inf file that starts with this line
[NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0]
It is towards the top
You will see many different hardware ID's listed below. What you are going to do is cross reference your graphics card you found in the bottom list from the previous step, and find its "match" in the new section we are working with.
Lets use the 3355 example from above.
The bottom section of the .inf file for the 335m was this
NVIDIA_DEV.0CAF.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M"
it's match in the upper section of the file that we are looking for is this
% NVIDIA_DEV.0CAF.01% = Section045, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0CAF&SUBSYS_12421043
See how we found it's match? From the first part of the string of text. See how the second portion of the string of text looks really similar to our hardware ID?
Well what we are going to do is make our own string, with using OUR hardware ID, matching to the graphics card reference.
So the new line you will be adding will be
%NVIDIA_DEV(PROPER GPU CODE)% = Section045, (YOUR HARDWARE ID CODE HERE)
Not the Section045 ---- this will vary obviously based on what card you have, and that is just for reference purpose.
Once you are done adding your new string with your hardware ID, save the file and install like normal.
I know this is really long and not that easy to follow. If anyone wants to copy and paste this and make it easier, fine by me.
Also!!
This nvam.inf file is specific to the driver package you are installing I believe. So it will need to be recreated any time you get this installation error.
If you need help, I can make the file for you, just paste your hardware ID and your graphics card you are working with. -
I will finish my instructions above - but unfortunately not until after work when I'm at my M11X. -
sorry ahead of time for caps but I actually am trying to portray yelling...
YOU DO NOT NEED A MODDED INF FOR R2 AT ALL. -
top, fixed my instructions for editing your nvam.inf
-
Installed and working fine on my R2 no modding needed. Just do the custom install and select clean install.
-
Make sure you have the"verde"drivers and not the desktop set.
-
Has to do w/ your hardware ID being recognized properly in the nvam.inf file - some are, some aren't. -
Sorry to bump this, but I figured I'd make a "Left 4 Dead" related discovery here with regard to the new drivers.
Left 4 Dead 1 has a strange "lighting" glitch of sorts, that creates very odd visual artificats rarely. In some parts of "No Mercy" especially near the gas station, there are some strange visual artifacts.
Otherwise the game runs perfectly at max settings, 4X MSAA, 16X AF... It's not game-breaking, but it's noticeable. Anyone else wanna test this?
I can only assume that there will be strange lighting quirks in Left 4 Dead 2... I will post any if I find them. -
Has anyone with an R2 done any benchmarking in 3dmark06 while only having the delta being your updated beta driver?
I am curious to see if there is a performance improvement overall just by updating this driver, or if it just seems to make specific games like L4D run better..
thanks! -
I'm actually getting not-so-great performance with these drivers right now on L4D2. I'm doing some tests to confirm.
