Hi everyone, for about the last 3 months I've been getting intermittent and random crashes when playing a certain game, league of legends. This crash seemingly doesn't have any precursor effect needed, aside from I hypothesize a higher internal temp. The only problem is I don't know why it would be suddenly getting hotter, I also unfortunately can't clean out the fan if it is clogged as my keyboard screws were stipped and I'm now out of warranty (working on fixing this but that isn't here or there).
I only bring this up because today was the first time I have played a full PC game other then league, and after 6 hours of playing space marine at full graphics and the laptop seeming to get just as hot as when I play league (not abnormally hot compared to how it was before mind you) it was fine.
So my question is what about League of legends is causing my Nvidia driver to reset and cause me to crash, honestly I've searched for answers and have found none. And there seems to be more users then just myself effected by this if the technical support forums are to be believed. So any help that you guys could give me would be appreciated.
And random questions does replacing the hinges require the keyboard to be removed?

you could try using msi afterburner or some like tool and underclocking memory, shader, and core clock by 50. it has fixed crashes and bsods on my end for quite a few games and is pretty well documented elsewhere on this forum.

you do need to remove keyboard to replace hinges.
What i do with screws that wont go out with a screw driver, i use pliers or something to grab it by the edges and unscrew, or at worst case scenario use a drill to drill the head off... i suppose it isn't recommended to do that, but it is sort of a last resort thing...
you can check if the heatsink is clogged much but using a flashlight under the notebook part of the vent and looking over the behind the laptop vent, can see quite clearly how much it is clogged... -

Have you been getting BSODs (blue screens) saying "nvlddmkm.sys has failed to reset" or something like that?
Download WhoCrashed here: Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer. It's an app recommended by some guys on this forum that analyzes your crash dump files.
If it says the error is due to that, then... there's really nothing you can do, you just gotta try upgrading or downgrading drivers. I get blue screens in Modern Warfare 3 after maybe 2 hours of gaming, but I don't in Modern Warfare 1 or 2 with my current drivers, for example. -
Yep that is my error, the only problem is that I have tried just about every suggested driver I have seen and none of them have worked.

Have you tried the beta drivers? if so try them. and you could go with 260.99 driver, that worked wonders for me. I'm having the same problem since I upgraded to 286.65

My two favorites are the 260.99 and the 285.62 from Nvidia. I get the least BSODs from those and switch depending on what works best for games I buy.
There aren't really any fixes for that problem with the M11x. If you delete or replace the defective .sys file, Optimus stops working. I just live with the issue -

NVIDIA DRIVERS 260.99 WHQL
I personally think these are the most stable drivers, but anti-aliasing doesn't work for some games. I don't often use AA though, so I don't mind. -
um guys i'm using the new beta driver and i'm having 0 problems, even when i alt tab.

if you're having problem with indie games, i think you have bigger issues than this. -

Well thanks buddy, I just tried the new 290.53 beta driver. They don't run the old Ghost Recon games or Trine without BSODs.
No driver's perfect, especially not when someone plays a whole bunch of obscure games. Thanks for the suggestion, but I'll stick with the 260.99s and avoid my Nvidia driver resetting all the time.

There are no absolutes. Same thing happens with other issues - "just do this" doesn't always work.

Actually got a real response from Riot for once, but it wasn't anything that I had already done (make sure your an admin etc.). However since I started underclocking I haven't had a single BSOD, this is using the 285.62. That being said I haven't been playing LOL for hours like I had previous, but then again I was also crashing sometimes in my first match so I'm not going to complain.

I still wonder if either:
1) voltage - no doubt they prefer the lower limits than higher for battery life bragging. If this is the case then a voltage change might make a diff. Some claim 116 errors can be due to GPU and then I found this (not specific to M11x)
0x116 = Low IOH (NB) voltage, GPU issue (most common when running multi-GPU/overclocking GPU)
2) memory - I think its possible a lot of us have borderline memory. Coupled with lower voltage it might explain why some can OC and others not. In my case with zero OC I was getting some artifacts until underclocked. A few other errors and looking at the artifact comparison pages online tells me I had GPU memory issue(s). No problem in desktop apps.
No proof though, just thoughts.
