Looks like the only "update" to the Dell Canada site is an increased price... from $899 CD to $998 CD - processors are still the same tho'..

Well I finally received my M11X today. I must say I'm very impressed. The battery life is amazing, it is dead quiet and compared to my B Series VAIO well built.
I opted for the Samsung SSD and it's very fast. I'm getting 200MB/s read speed.
I have tried many games and it has run them all with ease, bar GTA IV which is shame as I love that game.
I do have one dead pixel towards the bottom at the middle but it doesn't bother me so I'm leaving it.
I have played with my M11X all day and I went back to my Sony to download something and I was like "how rubbish is this keyboard, it doesn't light up!"

wow, its ridiculously cheaper on the US site now. Might as well buy it there and get it shipped here. Also the ram upgrade is $100 for 2 to 4, instead of $50 on the US site.

That FN+F2 to swtich between battery charging mode or not. Mine only shows what it is currently set to (can change it through BIOS though).

Ah got it. Yeah mine also just shows the status. But why would do you want to change that? If the laptop is not connected to AC power, it's not charging, when it is, it is charging. This simple system works for me perfectly! :D

iam thinking to buy an ssd for my 11x ..the startup is really slow..i used ssd on my desktop for 1year ago..and i can afford this startup times..and generally the laptop looks sleepy..

the only thing that is negative is the 80gb of intel ssd are really not enough..

    maybe i try for a used 120gb or 250gb

OK I have not had one single BSOD on my OC'd M11x at all and its been almost a month. Maybe you've got the wrong drivers going, rebuild windows if you think its serious.

I was just looking at the spec for 3D, working with the M11x. Looked all ok until you get to the gpu and it's just under the requirement. Minimum is GTS350M. But the some of the desktop gpu's are not as good as the GT335M and support 3D. Do you guys think that newer drivers will fix this?

I finally got my M11x last week. Took Dell less than 2 weeks from time of order. Pretty fast. So far it's as expected, and I like it. I do have couple of dead pixel around the left upper corner. They are largely unnoticeable, but just knowing they are their is kind of annoy. What have ppl been doing about this? I know the dell policy is 1 dead pix in the center or 2 dead pix in the periphery. Mine is a single spot on the left upper mid quadrant but looks bigger than just a single pixel. I guess there is no way to tell if it's a single pixel or a group of 2 or more dead pixels.

think you should ask for lcd replacement. they will just send a technician who will install new screen in 30 min.

Ya, ask for a replacement. Most likely they will just send you a technician to replace the LCD screen or offer a full replacement. Personally, I would do the LCD replacement as they will overnight that to a technician who would come over whenever they get it. In other words, you won't have to wait 2 weeks for another M11x.

So I enabled overclocking and updated my Nvidia driver to the beta one on Dell's website, yet I am still only getting 20.9 FPS while encoding my VIDEO_TS folder. That's the same that I was getting while at the standard cpu clock speed and original video driver. Is there some kind of setting you need to turn on to enable CUDA to work? If I had known that Badaboom works at the same speed as Handbrake, I could have just used that program and it's free. My older Mac Mini encodes video faster using Handbrake than my paid version of Badaboom. I must be using it wrong.

when you say your video_ts folder, like you copied that from a dvd? I don't remember my FPS whlie encoding with badaboom but I've done with it an ISO mounted and used the video_ts folder and I'm pretty sure it was faster than 21FPS. Handbrake encodes at 21FPS via all CPU? I think one bonus w/ badaboom is I can actually multitask on my PC while encoding. When I used CPU only encoding, my comp is basically dead to me lol

Does anybody else have this problem. My settings: sleep when I close the lid, or hit the power button. When I try to get back into it after manually clicking sleep on the task-bar it comes back fine but if I try to wake it after hitting the power button or closing the lid then the computer seems to wake up but the lcd does not turn on everything lights up (keyboard and all lights) except for the LCD any advice?

Just thought I would let everyone know that I swapped my wifi card to the Intel 6200. Initially I was having issues connecting to any network. Thanks to mk1freak, I am up and running. He suggested the following and it worked like a charm.

did you uninstall and driversweep the old dell 1520 card?
*what i did here was downloaded the intel drivers to drive and unzipped, restarted in safe mode, uninstalled the old wifi card (dell1520) from device manager,
ran ccleaner(drive and registry cleaned) i also used a freeware driver cleaner as well.
I turned off the comp installed the new card, turned on the comp(normal startup),
once windows found the card i cancelled the auto driver install, ran the intel installation, restarted and boom the wifi was working*

    Thanks mk1freak!

Hey guys, I downloaded the EVGA precision utility, and when my gt335 is idle its temperature hovers around 42C, is this normal? I've read some stuff on another forum where they got 38 degrees loaded, so it seems my temperature is too high.

E: Ok no worries, the guy who posted that replaced the heatsink :).

Now my second question, what's a safe temperature for the GPU when overclocking? What's the limit?

E#2: Is there any way to control the fan speed with EVGA precision utility?

I just bought a new 23" monitor (Samsung P2350) to go with my M11x, which I'm impatiently waiting for.

I have the monitor set up to my current laptop right now, along with my 26" TV. But, I can only seem to choose two screens at the same time (Nvidia 9500m GS graphics).

Will I be able to use all three screens with the M11x?

its absolute ok..also mine has the same temps

and i inform you..that this lappy had very good temps..the guys who decided that cooling heat system was very clever..
even i overclked this machine the gpu temps are limited up to 52-55c(load)..

my previous lappy was dell xps m1730 with dual 9800gt..the temps was
    idle 50-55c and loaded 75-80c+

my personal opinion is not to press a lot this machine..you dont have so big gain..because of the processor..

do a slight overclock if you want..and monitoring the temps..up to 60c you dont have problem..even a bit higher..

I tried the basic(trial) version of 3dmark06, but at the 2 CPU tests I seriously got under 1fps, it showed up as 0, score was just 6044 with OC'd cpu. The fan also stopped during the 2 tests (in that weird desert), so is this normal or is there something wrong?

E: Lol already found the answer. Some guy was saying: "even a quad-core does not succeed 2fps" so weird since it looks extremely bad.

BTW, I'll try OC'ing it using my notepal (coolingsystem for laptops, 2 fans underneath)

Correct. I am just pointing Badaboom to a video_ts folder on my ssd that has been created. I have my M11x overclocked through the bios and I have my gpu set to high using the 335M. I use the "basic" encoding setting for badaboom and chose the PS3 template to encode (at 20.9 FPS). Interestingly, when I encode the same folder using the iPhone template, I get 80 FPS and it is extremely fast. Could it be that the PS3 setting is too much for the M11x to handle because the resolution is 720P?

^ I think that is exactly it. I usually encode my videos to 480p or less since most are just high quality SD videos. But when they're going from .mkv to something else it's pretty slow, maybe 25FPS. But yeah a 720P video which I've encoded usually takes as much time as the length of the movie.

Cool! As long as I am not missing something, than I am feeling better about the program working correctly. So I am going to drop my KPS from 2500 to 2000 and see if that helps speed up the encoding process. Thanks!

has anybody changed the os to win7 ultimate 64bit ?
i thinking to do this..a clear install of ultimate 64bit..and remove all these crappy software of alienware...and keep only the basics drivers for the lappy..

i did in the past at my xps m1730 and i gain a lot of speed..during start up..everywhere..

I did. It really did not seem to matter. It was never slow to begin with (after disabling the face recognition software that is). Then again it's hard to judge since I installed it on a SSD and any speed increase I just attribute to that.

do you know if i can customize the m11x fx without this program?

on dell xps i customized everything about the lighting through the bios..
    that was good..

Need the program to customize the lighting. On the bright side, once it is set with the program you could uninstall it as the lighting settings are stored in the bios.

So I finally took the plunge on 5/3/2010 and ordered an M11x computer and I have refreshing the dell.com order status page like crazy. I am so anxious to get this new laptop. I have the starcraft 2 beta to install and start playing on this. I really hope this laptop will be shipped to me sometime this week. The EDD is: 5/19/2010 not sure about how much of a chance I have in getting it sooner.
