Just had this pop up when switching back to integrated from the nVidia card: Display driver stopped responding and has been recovered

Then when I tried to switch back I had massive letterboxing down the left/right sides. Switched back and forth and all was well again. Going to reinstall the driver.

I'm on the beta driver btw, how exactly do you go back to the old one if you have problems with this one?

Just looking in the advanced power settings & noticed an option called 'USB selective suspend'. By default, this is enabled and may be causing the sleep/lag problem you guys with razer orochi bt mice are getting, whilst gaming on bt. Anyone with this mouse, may want to check it out & let me know. Regards z0zz0

agreed. That's one of my biggest complaints. It's nearly useless to have the card sticking half way out. :(

they should have it just a little bit out, and click into place imo. that way it would be safe. ;)

Could you point me to the exact model number of the slowest i5 ULV. To my knowledge, there was only one i5 ULV, the i5-520UM:

Ok, so I went back to the original, non beta drive from the dell website.

Did it always make the colours MUCH more vivid in discrete GPU mode? It's like the saturation went up quite a bit.

EDIT: Obviously it wasn't supposed to do that. I must have done something wrong when installing the drivers; did a system restore to what I had before and now everything's dandy.

Does the M11x support TPM for bitlocker? My Corp vpn requires it so this is a must for my mobile machine. Can someone check their BIOS for TPM support?

lol just tested it, and yup it made my comp go to sleep hahah, no problem though since obviously this never has happened to me before so I must not put my mouse on the palm rest at all. No problem when the mouse is on the table and right next to the palm rest either. So non-issue.

    Hi Guys,
I've been following this forum since Feb and have learnt some awesome things about this lil beauty. I was originally going to wait til my trip to the US in June to buy it as RRP is about $1500 in Australia.

However! It seems that retailers here are suddenly clearing this model. ($1160)
    Officeworks Laptop Deals e.g. Alienware M11X - $1161 (RRP: $1499) - OzBargain

Both Jb HiFi and Office works are selling them at pretty big discounts. Cheaper than if i bought online in the US. There is speculation this is to make way for the next model, are sellers in US etc. clearing stock at all??

I can't wait to get my hands on it, but obviously if a refresh is coming June/July would prefer to wait.

Another rumour: "Expect to see low prices on a lot of Dell gear at stores like, The Good Guys, DSE, OW, and JB. Dell has pulled out of the retail store world and going back to just online." Anyone know anything about this?

    This is very interesting.
I would also think if Dell is trying to get ride off current model for preparing a refresh. Maybe? =p

There are magnets in the mouse to hold the top/battery cover on. Guess how the lid sensor switch works? Yeah: Magnetic relay. I always set the lid sensor to "do nothing."

That said, I can't get my backlight to go off when I place the mouse there so there must be ANOTHER lid switch to control that. A normal design has one and it's either magnetic or physical, never both.

No. Read Razer's site. It's normal behavior caused by the mouse's power-saving methods. They say to plug it in for gaming or keep the mouse moving.

I want a setup like my Acer Aspire one with two SD card slots. One was semi-permanent and would auto-mount to the filesystem in Linux and the other was protruding for temporary transfers.

When i close my lid on my M11x, i set it to do nothing so I can close it, move it somewhere else or just leave it closed while I take a nap while downloading or updating software.

    my concern is:
when I close the lid, obviously the screen goes blank to save the power/screen longevity.

What about the keyboard, I see that the keyboard actually STAYs lit.
Is there any feature to shut off the backlit keyboard when the lid is closed other then switching off AlienFX?

Let me know all, thank you.

I don't see any option in BIOS for something like that. Also this site: Alienware M11x review | Laptops | Reviews | PC Pro implies there actually isn't any.

He's a salesman, not a tech guy. He's just telling you what you want to head so that he can get a commission by making a sale. He doesn't care if your satisfied or not as long as he goes home with a fat check. True for 80% of dell reps.

OK, looks like there is a solution. Did some searching and BAM....
Linky - SD Card Slot - Page 3

A bit of a hack, but Seems like a good solution if your trying to add windows ready boost or additional space and don't need it for other devices.

Be advised, this is only known to work on this particular SD card, most have full length PCB's inside.

Or you could get one of those uncap-able SD cards with built-in USB and break the USB part off. They obviously have half-sized PCBs.

That's exactly why I asked for the author to include it in AlienFX Lite. He said it's possible. The "ALIENWARE" badge under the LCD goes off, but not the keyboard. Stupid, I know.

Would be a good feature. But thats why I like the SSD. Just hitting the FN+Alien FX shuts the lights out pretty quick.

Also the Alienware badge is actually lit by the screen which is why it isn't customizable.

Hopefully if they can write it into the program, they will with an update in the future. Would be nice. Otherwise the only way to do it is the lid/sleep option.

I've been using it alot and very satisfied. It just works... normal. :) No disconnects or anything like that. As far as receiving the signal goes, it's limit distance is roughly the same as my iPhone - when I loose a WiFi at my university, it goes down on both devices. I don't know where is tha card on the laptop but it doesn't heat up even remotely compared to (yes... i'll mention it again) dell m1330 xps - that one had wifi below the touchpad and it would be getting really hot after extensive downloading.

yup. The USB sdhc cards I've seen are also made by sandisk. If you look closely at the pictures you can clearly see where the PCB stops.

Seems someone could make some money making one meant for half size SD slots, maybe with a little ridge to get a hold of and an adapter to make it work in full size slots.

Any patent attorneys out there ;).

that half SD card would be kind of useless to me, since my camera needs full size to pop in and out. They just should've made the sd slot deeper. Not sure why I would just want 4/8/16GB of additional space sitting on the card as I use the SD slot for portable media and transfering rather than storage..

The M11x is down to AUD$1100 in OZ for:
    SU7300, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD...

So tempting. I wish I had confirmation if there was going to be a hardware refresh in the next 2 months... *sigh*...might just jump in I reckon...

Well the whole purpose for the mod is not to use it for a camera but with a laptop so that it can sit flush with the chassis when inside a short sd card slot. Basically you are making it usuable for two purposes: as extra storage space for laptop when you have an SDD or as Readyboost for when you have an HDD.

And yeah I agree, it is retarded to make such a portable laptop (with only 1 2.5" drive bay) and not have a normal sized memory card slot.

Blast! Ok so the top left of my M11x screen is slightly coming out. Hardly noticable. I pushed it back in a week or two ago. Well now that I take a closer look with the system off, the keyboard is leaving slight nicks in the screen at the bottom left. Nothing that is going to buff out unfortunately. Until I noticed this, it has been a flawless system. Has anyone had thier screen replaced for this? I'm thinking about mailing the M11x back in for service since I'm in Iraq.

I normally use it in my room while watching a movie or what not,so when I'm done I close it and leave it on the bed. Meaning it's a pain to put a cloth on the keys everytime I close it. Well suppose I should call in sooner rather than later.

I have the same problem, right bottom. If I push it back in it comes out again after about 2 days, but it's not really growing, I measure it every 1-2 days. If it grows I'll send it back.

It seems like alot of M11x's have this problem, I wonder what it is...

Hi I'm updating on my BSOD on OC problem here in the UK.

First of all thanks to bexx and be77solo for their encouraging comments.

After fruitless phonecalls with the frankly useless tech support dept. I have decided to follow the route of complaining to customer services.

Here is what have just sent:

Since recieving my m11x I have discovered that the overclock option in the BIOS does not work. I get a Blue Screen (BSOD) within a few seconds of rebooting.

Your tech support dept said that you do not support this feature. However all machines sent out for review by websites mention this feature as a bonus. The product documentation mentions this feature (it is mentioned in the computer's manual)... and one of the reasons I bought this machine was on it's easy overclocking feature!!!

It is a option in the BIOS that you can either switch 'on' or 'off'. And yet I am told by the support technician that only 'experts' may touch BIOS options.

I paid a lot of money for this machine and personally believe that I should have this issue resolved. I expect either a replacement computer or preferrably an engineer visit to replace the motherboard, processor or both.

Please do not let me down. I am extremely underwhelmed at the moment by the quality of your after sales service. I like the machine. I want the machine. I do not want to have to push for a refund. All I ask for is what I paid for...

I was told by the website to expect a call within 1 business day. For the benefit all other Uk'ers (whether you own one yet or not), I'll continue to post my experiences here.

Yeah bottom right with exactly the same popping out thing. I have a feeling there's just bunch of cables or something bunched up at that spot and I think it could be fixed by rearranging them (I had the exact same thing happening after I assembled my xps m1330).

Since I got the machine I`ve noticed that i get some smudge lines on the screen from closing the lid. It`s usually around the W,A,S keys, I haven`t seen it in other places on the screen but that could just be because I use those keys more.

Any one else have this issue?

I probably would not get this laptop for encoding. The cpu is weak. It's saving grace is that it eats up very little power. The laptop as a whole is a decent gaming/media viewing computer because the weak cpu is paired up with a great mid-level gpu.

You would most likely benefit more from using a quad core i5/i7 laptop as whatever programs you would be using would most likely benefit from multi-threaded application use.

Well I just got off the phone with dell for the screen problem and the low volume of my soundcard/cutting out of one headphone jack.

They are sending a tech to replace the sound card and the screen... I am hoping I get a screen with the wwan antennas in it!
