Alienware M11x getting Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 upgrade next month, says Dell rep -- Engadget
Black Alienware M11X | US VERSION | SU7300 @ 1,66 mhz | Win 7 Ultimate | 1GB 335M | 8GB DDR3 | 500GB HD | GOBI CARD | KITTEN ARE MALTESE
-
note they're ULV but yeah still nice!
-
... my m11x still flying to here ... should i cancel it? i3 will be awesome ... -
I'm interested if there will be 4 cores anywhere? And why all "i"'s? Maybe one of them? Cause what's the reason for i3 when there will be i5?
Can anyone calculate how fast will it be with i3/i5/i7 over current 7300? -
Shouldn't we wait and see which options are actually available? Lol. I'm actually waiting to see if Darkhan's prediction of soft touch lids actually comes true... Its just a matter of time
-
-
-
I'm still not leaving my su4100 for a i chip however Dell's timing of chip change after I just got my replacememt unit does leave me a little disgruntled.
-
All you need is a simple HDMI to DVI cable, for an external DVI display. -
-
good luck with that, im trying to cancel mine that didnt arrive yet and Dell put me on hold for hours!!!! -
-
-
, in which case I'd have to use DP as well. The cables are on their way from Monoprice, fingers crossed.
-
Is the new i5 chip much better than the current chip in the m11x? my m11x is currently shown as shipped and i am now completely confused as to what to do, i may return it but then the new version may cost a fortune here in the UK so it may be worth just biting the bullet and keeping it................HELP!
-
i paid here in Brazil with all taxes 2.055 U$ and ive been reading posts about i3 and i5 and i think will worth to wait .... and beside the price cant get much higher than this ... cause will come too close to m15x, i think will be $100 for the new CPU.
even with ppl saying that icore will consume more battery, is 10w vs 18w, but this 18w already have the IGP, that is not add in the 10W calculation, and the icore got new IPC etc, i will wait for a refresh one. like we say here my money dont born in the grass. -
Thanks FelipY2K. The only problem for me is i dont have a laptop currently (using a netbook) and dont want to wait another month for a update then again for a delivery. I am inpatient!!! However if somebody tells me the processor is MUCH BETTER in the new one i may try and wait, to be honest i am not a heavy user so IF the current setup will work with most games for the next couple of years then......................oh bugger it, i just don't know!

In regards the possible upgrade next month, it's the same ol' story. If you wait a month or two on everything you buy in the computer world you can always get something bigger and better for cheaper. If you play that game, you would never buy anything new as you are always waiting for the latest and greatest.
Besides how often does a company rep mention new hardware is coming out in a month and it actually does come out in a month? To me it always seemed to take longer than announced.
I got my M11X last month so yes I am abit disappointed that I didn't get the new processor but I am happily using mine now and not waiting who know how much longer. If you can wait then maybe you should but I would try to find out from more Dell sources when the updated machine will be available for delivery.

I hear you, I really do and dell have screwed everybody who has the current m11x. Why didn't they do this in the first place? I'm now back on the edge again.
The only thing keeping me going with the one one it's way is, I think it's a good price I paid £999. And most reviews appear to show it plays games well?that, to be honest is all I will use it for. I just hope the new one is about £200 more then I will be happy, my budget was £1000 not a penny more see. -
-
-
and they gave me free shipping ($100) and 1 year complete care ($100). so the machine would be like 2.255 ... a bargain
-
Well, lets wait and see what they will use in it, and how fast will it be
-
well, i think i will wait until it get here (friday i hope) and make my mind up then. It is possible the upgrade wont happen until July, August time and i cant wait that long. I may ring Dell when it arrives and see if they can give me some money back or something to sweeten the deal so i dont send it back. I cant go over £1000 anyway so if the new one will be over that then i couldnt afford it.
-
i wish the new one comes in red too!
-
just emailed dell customer support to request a returns number for the M11x (when it arrives this week!) OR a partial refund. I will see what happens.
I am happy to keep this model when it arrives provided they give me some kind of money off. If not then it is going back and i will re-order the new model next month.
I just can't really justify the price i am paying (without a discount) for a model that has only a month left before a update.

-
As long as the laptop is unopened and unused then you can return a product using the "distance selling" rules. A customer can change there mind. If you open it then you cannot get a full refund.
-
-
i hope dell does something where you can exchange your old m11x and get the new one with the i# processors and just put in your old hard drive and pay some extra $ for the new processor
-
anyway, the other hinge is busted on mine... i need to send it in anyway... but i still need it for school.. -
i just saw this on newegg.
Newegg.com - Seagate Momentus XT ST95005620AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ Solid State Hybrid Drive -Bare Drive
im wondering if i could put that into my m11x
and im also wondering what kind of speed boosts i would be getting from something like this -
Interesting drive - is it to say that it has a 4gb partition for, say, the OS?
-
well here's where i first saw it
Seagate pairs 7200RPM HDD with 4GB of NAND in 2.5-inch Momentus XT hybrid drive -- Engadget
but its 4gb of SLC NAND flash memory thats used to store frequently used info and help it access it faster or something. it seems pretty cool. especially the price lolol
EDIT: here's a video of it running against an SSD drive a 10,000 rpm drive and a 7200 rpm drive.
YouTube - Seagate Momentus XT -
XT hybrid is getting pretty good reviews too. Obviously it's not SSD class fast but it isn't SSD class price either. Early reviews have it besting 10k raptor drives for performance.
-
yeah. i just posted the video on the last post of page 280 it was comparing it to an SDD, 10k rpm, and 7.2k rpm
its like 5 seconds slower in boot time than the sdd. which is pretty amazing to me. -
That Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive seems great to me. If I had the choice between an Seagate Momentus XT hybrid 500gb at $150 or an Intel x25 80gb g2 SSD at $200, I would go with the XT hybrid for the $50 savings and huge space vs the slightly faster SSD.
Even against say my Intel x25-m 160gb g2 SSD for $400 would take a huge back seat mainly for the savings to be had not to mention the extra space. -
, wheres the best place to buy two?
-
So if I'm to understand this drive right, it intelligently moves commonly used files to the SSD portion of the drive? IE, Windows files more than likely?
-
You can preorder a quite a few places atm. Newegg has it bare bones drive for $130 + $6.50ish shipping. Seems it starts shipping in two days from them.
Whatever it is doing though, the reviews shows it is working. That video review that someone posted earlier makes it look quite awesome for a drive. Only a little slower than the SDD but alot faster then a 7200 HDD or even a 10k Raptor HDD.
The only negative thing I read about it is from tomshardware who says it shortened their test laptop's battery life by 50 minutes compared to a 7200 HDD. That reason alone makes me happy to have a SSD in my laptop. But for a desktop, I'd totally use a Momentus XT hybrid, raid or not. -
yeah. i mean, i think its a drive if you really want that ssd speed but cant afford it. (aka me) cause im in a student budget and so i cant afford those ssds especially when i need all that space to store files and stuff.
and i think newegg is selling it the cheapest. amazon has it too for a few dollars more but no shipping. so they're about the same i think.
if anyone gets please post up some benchmarks or something too. i wanna see how good it really is. make sure to load up some stuff and reboot it a few times to make sure the flash memory has some stuff on it. -
Will the physical problems (hinge, screen, etc) that the current model suffers from be fixed in the refresh? I sure hope so..
-
-
but yeah, let's hope they fix it. i'm currently in the ranks of those with problems... -
-
-
If your screen is gaping (the plastic front bezel pulling away from the frame or LCD panel itself), please call support and they will send someone out to replace your LCD assembly to resolve the problem.
Thanks,
Brian
