Ok..don't laugh but how thick are these decals? I know they mostly cover the top of laptop but for the part that covers the palmrest and stuff, does it traps heat or not much heat problem from these stickers?

    I am now a proud owner :)

Initially very impressed by the form & feel.
Screen is better than my HP 311 so happy with that.
The ability to factory reset in 15min is great.. just doing it for 2nd time.
3DMark06 on 2nd boot (after win update) was 6897 (3065/3100/1730)
    [edit] WEI=3.4 (5.7/5.7/3.4/6.2/5.9)

    So big big :)

    Now to the Problems..

    1. Keys are a bit narrow due to squeesing in page/end/home etc. but i will get used to this.

    2. Wifi connects fine at G (54Mbps) but won't connect at N. Not sure if it's the M11x of the router at this time. Also the M11x cant see channel 13, where I had my router (now at 9). Card is DW1520.

    3. I played with OCing the CPU & GPU and the whole powermizer thing and the new drivers + ini. The whole thing gets very flaky, did not beat initial 3DMark06 score and World of Warcraft ended up crashing even with no OCing. Hence the 2nd factory reset.

So I am rebuilding to be a nice netbook and setup my life on it, then I will look at where I might need extra performance.

All in all very happy that it will do what I need and I will resist the temptation to tinker :)

I don't know in what country you are. In North America, Channels 12, 13 and 14 are disallowed. If you are in a country that allows those channels then maybe the wireless card in your laptop was configured for North America and thus it has those channels deactivated.

It's not a hardware problem, it's a configuration problem. However, you may want to switch to channels 1, 6, or 11. These are channels that don't overlap and usually the ones that give the strongest signals. That's why hotels and other locations offering wifi are usually broadcasting on those channels. Hope this clears some things up.

    Cheers.

UK and I don't think 13 is allowed, but it does let me have an open space of the spectrum away from the several neighbors.
Anyhow I have settled on 9.

Yep, I found that by switching the access point authentication to AES (from TKIP) it worked. It may be me not reading things right so i may play with this more.

BYW for checking out how crowded the wifi airspace is around you I would recomend inSSIDer .. or if you have an android phone check out WIFI analyzer

Hi all, just got this laptop a few days ago. Just wondering, is anyone else experiencing a high pitched whine from the CPU? It's slightly noticeable when actually using the laptop, but when the laptop is sleeping I can tell it's there. (OC and Turbo disabled)

Hmm, I can't seem to find such a post, but I can assume that this CPU whine is not normal for the M11xR2? Is there any software I can use to stop it? Thanks!

it's not the cpu. it's probably the hard drive. the only way to stop it would be to stop the hard drive from spinning. alternatively, you could get an ssd hard drive, which won't have the same sound, since there aren't moving parts.

My R2 is currently "in production." Kinda irritating because it was supposed to ship today, and it was supposed to be here in time for an upcoming business trip. [redacted, found the order status thread]

Is it me...or does the screen on the M11x hurt your eyes?
Lately, my eyes have been getting tired quicker than usual.

Compared to what? I find it better than my previous netbook.

You should check you are not leaning in as that will cause strain on your neck and whole world of grief/stress. And yet I still do it :(

    From a 20" moniter.
In my younger years, I use to play up to 4-5 hours a day (sometimes staying up till 2:00 AM) and never get tired eyes.

Lately though, since I got my M11x, I have been getting tired eyes after only a 2-3 hours of gaming.

Its not you..I find myself with tired and teary eyes sometimes. many years ago I had a 1600 dollars sony laptop 10 inches with 5 hrs battery Could game on that thing for hours without a problem. In fact I would play battllefield 1942 and battlefield Vietnam on my 19 inches and at same time game RTS game on my 10 inches sony all night no problem. Right now.. OMG... @ 36 yrs old..while not old, I do feel a difference with my eyes gaming modern warfare 2 on 11.6 inches...killing my eyes sometimes, but its just so cool to have... lol. So.. I guess if you are around my age...nevermind.. too depressing lol.

Yeah Noah, I use two externals at the same time, a 24" and a 21" when I am at my work-station, and happily use the inbuilt-screen of the m11x when I am out and about. I mean, this is the sole reason why i got the m11x; For the extreme gaming/powerhouse portability while mobile, and the ease of a cool desktop experience while in-house.

I think it's rather hard on the eyes and hands to purchase the m11x and solely depend on it's screen and keyboard for long-term work/gaming.

Yea, had they made a gaming laptop same resolution same spec but at 13.3 inches, that would be super....My Asus ul30VT with weak G210m can play MW2 at 1366 x 768 low detail, I can only imagine what AW would be like at this screen size, best compromise.

FINALLY, just received my m11x R2(i7, 4gb, 320 HDD) after just over a month of waiting(stupid Canada).

Loving it, it's bigger than I thought from videos/pics(a good thing), hinge seems solid so far. Keyboard is tiny for my man hands, but it's good for what it is. Everything so far so good, I am at work so I cannot do much but oogle it, hahah.

Bought a coolermaster storm sentinel to match the lighting on it, pretty cool over-all, I need a new case(bought the binder) to fit all the extras hahah ohh well I'll find a nice back pack I guess.

It tends to hang up when I go to restart it from the start menu, but a shut down works fine. Not sure whats up there, but I'll figure it out soon enough!

Loving it, glad I went with the base model i7 as looking at HDD/ram upgrades it is SOO much cheaper through my suppliers. Wish the damned screen wasn't a mirror though, that's a big gripe, guess I'll have to drop a few bucks on the anti-glare sticker.

Thanks for everyone on this forum for helping me with this decision, I love it!!

Is it just the contrast, or? Is it a bright clear image though? Are blacks black, and saturation good?
Or is it the viewing angles and reflective glossy that is the problem?

Do you think it's actually hard for you to read small letters on it? Is it so bad you dont feel you could watch HD movies 720 on it?

Not tested it but if you have left power saving features on then possibly not.

Faster = more power used but also quicker execution.

So for general low impact use (browsing, word processing) probably not.

If you use it on max power for prolonged period (gaming) then yes it would use more power and reduce battery life.

If you want maximum power then you are more likely to turn off all the performance bits (OC, Turbo) and any devices you don't use (Wifi, USB, Firewire etc..)

Well, I feel pretty good about the laptop's ability to withstand a fairly good amount of liquid being splashed onto the the keyboard.

My cat upended a Lipton Green Tea bottle that was mostly full right onto the middle of the keyboard while the laptop was feeding my TV a movie. I'm guessing about 3-4fl.oz. went into the keyboard before I was able to get a paper towel, power it off and get it propped onto its side. Having taken this thing apart about 6 times already I wasn't terribly worried about being able to clean and dry it out. I let it sit that way while we finished the movie from my MBP.

About 90 minutes later I opened it up, dried what I was able to find - most had drained out already. There was still a considerable amount in the keyboard tray and surprisingly there was a fair amount on the top side of the battery. Rinsed the keyboard in the sink, tapped out the excess moisture, blew some canned air in there for good measure and slapped it all back together.

Hasn't missed a beat. Right now I'm running Prime95 in order to let the heat evaporate whatever might be left in there.

    :)

Finally got my own M11X, Trying this little beast atm, so far loving it :D . Got it today. No problem with the hinges, and the keyboard does not touch the screen very lucky. Overclocked to 162 running stable. Downloading games to see if a need to change the drivers if the nvidia card does not kick it. So far thumbs ups. Cheers

Having done this on a train with my mini 311 and not being capable of taking it apart. I can recommend a night in an airing cupboard (or suitably warm place).

Then there is also the rice trick, put it in a box/bag with loads of rice and leave it for a few days.

thanks, 5-6 hours is no too shabby. I did not realize yesterday that this i7-640um is only 2 cores so that probably helps the battery life

Also, does anyone know of any good carrying cases for the mx11? I tried to google it and nothing came up, I find it odd that no one makes a custom case just for this machine considering it's meant to be portable. Thanks.

It's been speculated on, but honestly I don't think it's going to happen any time soon. The M11x is selling well and it's too tight a fit between it and the M15x. The cost of bringing another model to market just doesn't make sense for a while.

Having said that, if they did, or when they do come out with one I'll be kicking my M11x to the curb in a heartbeat!

Still waiting for my Mx11 R2 to be built but am trying to pre-plan for the day I get it. Does Dell include a bunch of useless bloatware on the Alienwares? I am trying to determine if I need to re-install everything before I use the laptop. I would rather not.

Even if they did, I'd stick with my M11x. Partly because I'd expect a 13" one to cost more and I have a desktop for a main. So my whole point was to buy an 11" that has a backlit keyboard, discrete graphics, and current gen processor.

Wish I would have ordered one of these last Thursday eve with the Dell 25% BCB. Waited until Friday morning and it was too late.

Maybe a coupon code will come out in the near future?
