I have a question. When you guys put your laptop to sleep and wake it up, does it take about 10 or so seconds before you can start doing anything? For example, I had a browser window and outlook minimized. After waking up, I clicked on one of them to maximize it but nothing will happen after about 10 seconds. Then everything is at full speed. I have a 500GB Seagate Hybrid installed if that matters.

No, once I've logged back into my session everything is instantly accessible. Same drive in my system, but even when I was running with the stock 160GB there wasn't any delay after waking.

Hmm. Maybe it's time to reghost my computer. Now that the driver issues have been ironed out, I won't have to go through all these uninstalls as before to get things working right from a fresh install of Windows.

You re-register with the same email each year. No need to change email. All they want you to do is touch base with them once a year and they send you a new activation code good for another year. :) I have been using it for years.
    Cheers!

True, and the drive takes care of this so it is "invisable" to the PC. It caches frequently used bits of data, so "learns" and improves with use.
Data writes go streight to the HD, not the SSD bit.

While pulling speeds equal to or faster than fast 3.5" drives, reviews show it runs hotter and uses more power than non-XT Momentus.

My current thinking is to wait for version 2... but it is tempting.

Why don't you try the Seagate Momentus XT?

Supposedly it's a HDD with a bit SSD in it. It's supposed to be faster than regular HDD's but not as fast as a real SSD, but it's 500 GB, and it uses a bit more battery for the added speeds supposedly. Some people who have it might be able to tell u more.

The SSD portion of the drive is just a 4GB read buffer. The drive "learns" what you used the most so it caches the files needed by that program onto the SSD portion. Any writes done are made back to the platters themselves. It does take a few times before the drive learns what you use the most. Windows does seem to boot a bit faster and the most used apps will launch faster as well. Not overly sure about the battery life though, I've heard the same thing that it is lower than another mechanical drive.

I'm either getting a WD500BEKT or the new Seagate 7200.5 750GB 7200RPM, depending on which one is faster..

well i received my r2 today and i must say its pretty neat. however, the bad thing was that when i was looking at the bottom part where the speakers are...the 3 screws in the area were LOOSE. like literally you can see the bottom plate ready to fall off. i was pretty disappointed that they didn't check it. overall, good computer =)

I got mine yesterday! Nice little beast!

At first i only unboxed the M11x and went in a quiet room to check the fan noise.

As i checked my charger I had to lough... I am German and we have electric sockets with two! holes:

    http://www.piccolauniversitaitaliana.com/de/faqs/images/f_schuko_plug_and_socket.png

My power cord had 3 pins like this:

    http://www.telefon.de/images/big/motorola_syn7455.jpg

The power cord of my Toshiba fits, so I could charge the M11x :D

Alienware will resend the right one.

The fan runs continously, but very quiet. After a complete discharge / charge (Settings: Lowest backlit, wlan on, alien fx off) the battery shows with 93% 5hrs and 4 mins. Thats awesome I think!

The subnotebook is VERY heavy, but also very solid and doesnt look cheap at all.

You dont think you have a toy in your hands, feels like a real beast ; )

GOT IT! My i7 came in yesterday actually, but I missed the FedEx guy so I had called in and asked to pick it up this morning. It's sitting in my car inside of a fancy black box! I think I'm coming down with a cold... I should probably head home from work now... :D

The guy at the FedEx office asked if I had two packages because he noticed another fancy black box in the storage room.... Maybe someone else's M11xr2 came in??

I got mine today here is two issues already that i need somebody's confirmation in the forum who have the unit already.

1- the mouse keypad doesnt come with scrool down up bar? Is there any way to enable that?

the more important issue is follows...

2- the keyboard get lower almost in the middle of the machine. the keys b-g-h-t-y-6-7 seems lower on the keyboard then the keys on its left and right. It may be the desing for more confortable typing and gaming or it may be the defect. If somebody can confirm that for me on their machine i would appreciate it. if not i will have to RMA it. thanks in advance.

    2) Mine is the same way, it's been this way since my R1 and my R2 now. It's not exactly eye candy but yours is fine.

Contra Howard, you can enable the scrolling with the touchpad. Control Panel -> Mouse -> Device Settings -> Settings. (Pretty sure that's where it is, anyway. I installed the scrybe drivers, so it's different now, but I know I enabled scrolling the day I got it, which was before installing the scrybe drivers. Anyway, if it's not there, try the looking in the synaptic system tray icon's settings. )

will try thanks for the update.

while typing an email and nothing else running on the backround the system froze instantly. Including CTRl+Alt+del didnt work, had to turn it off from the power button. Now it freaks me out more to test it hours and hours. It seems like I am not having any luck with new machines that i get. Will keep using and try to see if it freezes again. Will keep you updated all.

It uses a synaptic touchpad, so you can download this:
    Download - SYNAPTICS | Scrybe

and it will add more options to enable some simple multi-touch gestures, like 2 finger scrolling, chiral scrolling and pinching. Note: you'll have to enable those options in the control panel->mouse->Device Settings->Settings.
