I know the a common complaint about the the m11x R3 has been its lack of overclocking cpu overclocking capabilities. You can do a bit in the bios but not much. I've managed to overclock my cpu to 2.9Ghz stable using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. Has anyone else used this to overclock the i7 on the m11x r3?

2.9GHz turbo boost or standard clocks?

Gonna try this out with my i5 M11x R3, see if I can get anywhere.

Just messed about a bit with it, the best I could do is 1.7GHz/2.44GHz Turbo Boost, anything more and it crashes immediately.

My question is how much extra heat are you creating just to get an extra 100MHz?

No idea, I uninstalled it shortly after.

That extra 100MHz isn't too noticeable and I'm already happy with how it performs before I installed the utility.

Once you are on it. Make sure that you always monitor the temperatures as damages caused by overclocking (not from factory) aren't normally covered under warranty.

I know I stated above that I wouldn't OC mine, but now I'm curious how you got to OC yours? What version did you use of XT? What changes did you make?
