Is it possible to display a PS3 through HDMI in the Alienware M11x screen without lag?

I have been reading about this but there is nothing concrete I can read about it, so if you have both a PS3 and a Alienware M11x can you try to do it or if you know the answer let me know please.

i thought the hdmi on the m11x (and most other pc's and laptops) was only capable of outputting to a screen and not taking an input.

how awesome it would be if i were wrong, though :)

Yeah that is what I have read that HDMI on laptops is for output only but maybe newer technology could offer input now, or maybe there is a converter to change it to input? Any chance about this?

All video connectors on all (I'm not aware of any laptops that allow video input) laptops are output only. You'd have to connect the monitor straight to the PS3 (which if it was a standard connection, would require you to take apart your M11x). A Tv Tuner would be your only option (as they allow input) but to make the most of your PS3, it would have to be HD.

You would need a tv tuner or capture card for input

the only laptop I have heard of with an hdmi INPUT is the Clevo x8100

I've always thought an I/O hdmi port would be totally awesome.

The only way that I know of getting the PS3 to display on the m11x is through an adapter like the hauppauge hd pvr. It will only do component video, but it will input an HD signal. The box actually is a converter that will encode the signal into a high quality h.264 stream which then can be fed to the computer through USB. This probably is the best solution as the PS3's HDMI signal is encrypted and therefore can't be recorded.
