    Hey guys,
I recently got a momentus XT 500gb SSHD and on my previous stock 160gb drive I had to reformat about twice over the course of six months. So, I was wondering (being that I know nothing beyond the basics of partitioning) if I partitioned my drive and installed about 200gb worth of games onto its own partition while keeping the OS on its own ~40gb partition could it be possible to just wipe that one partition and stillhave the games intact with no problems? My dad informed me that there would be issues with games but Ive installed games to external drives with no problems. Any advice? I just would like to save about 2 hours if there is ever a problem. If this doesn't work are there any other solutions?

    Thanks in advance,
    Deevu

P.S. Sorry if this question is very vague or hard to understand I am rushing off to work and have forgotten to post this on several occassions. :(

if you use Steam, just use its backup facility. most of the games copy some of their resources into Windows partition even if you chose another drive in the time of installation (e.g. in Documents for saved games/settings).

    Hope this helps :)

Cheers :) yeah, I have 19 games from steam. I backed them up beforehand. I guess Ill just sacrifice 2 hours to reinstall if a virus finds its way into my system. I guess Ill just suck it up and install the other 8-10CDs and just partition 1gb for iTunes or some nonsense like that. 499gb for OS/Games - 1gb for music. Sounds great. =]

Or you can take an Image from you OS partition and transfer it to your new SSD (CloneZilla does this with ease).

Clonzilla is free, you can find lots of tutorials on how to use it over the utube.

    good luck :)

It's probably still worth it to have the games on a separate partition. Many games will still work and most of the games on steam should be okay. WoW for example has no problems with this. Just make sure you locate the save games and back them up first.

Some games will still refuse to load if they can't find the appropriate registry entries which would have been set by the installer. GH3 is one game I have that refuses to work after an OS re install.

I'm running McAfee. I like it but it uses more processing power than the standard antivirus. Only downside I found at least :) I also use MalwareBytes and Spyware Search and Destroy for added effect. The last two are from download.com and McAfee has to be purchased.
