I have an Alienware m11xR2 and I game mostly dota2 atm with friends. Recently (last 2-3 days) I have been experiencing serious frame rate decreases really oddly. When I play I get about 1-5 minutes of low frame rate (about 7-12 estimate) and then about 30 seconds of back to normal. This never used to happen before and I haven’t been able to fix it by lowering the video settings all the way to the lowest or putting them all the way up again, this seems to have almost no effect on it. Furthermore I noticed yesterday that when I had low frame rate my ping was between 9-12 whereas every time I had high frame rate it went up to 30-36 ping. I found this really odd and nothing I did fixed the problem so I decided to do a system restore to about 10 days ago when my laptop was performing normally. When I started today for the first time since my system restore the frame rate seemed normal. 2 or 3 minutes in I started to get small intervals of the bad frame rate again until by the end of the game I was getting 5 minutes of bad frame rate for every 30 seconds of normal performance. I also noticed that like before my ping dropped when experiencing low frames (60-66 ping this time) and increased when at a higher frame rate (83-91 ping). Any help would be appreciated as this is driving me crazy and I can’t enjoy playing atm.

Also i wasn't sure where the appropriate place to ask this question was. If anybody had other forums or places they believed I would receive more help on that would also be helpful.

Sounds like your system is overheating and throttling. Clean it out and use throttlestop to see what's going on.

Ok. Im going to clean out my vents and then try to play and then ill see what throttlestop says. The only thing is when I played a BOT game on dota 2 (which still uses a server) I had much better performance. Could it still be a throttling issue?

I used throttle stop and my Chipset Clock modulation is going down to 50%. My Clock Modulation % stays at 100%. How do I prevent this ? Also why is this only occurring when I play with others and not by myself. And why is my PING being effected at the same time?
