I have a detailed question regarding the real world performance of R1 compared to R3. SU7300 oc to 1,6 GHz with stock 335M and to i5 + 540M.

In benchmark charts the 335M is not remarkably slower (-10 to 20% and less for example http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html but I found others as well) like the 540M. But in benchmarks regarding the real world performance in combination with i5 the R3 seems to be a lot better than 20%.

    AnandTech - Alienware M11x R3: Portable Powerhouse

I own myself a R1 and i am pretty annoyed by the 20 FPS of the r1 while playing Bf BC2 online. I am using 1368 and low settings. Is the R3 i5 a significant performance difference like it seems to be according to anandtech and may be worth a change?

Following the 335/540 difference this could not be the case.

    Sorry for my english.
    I am confused :(

From what I've heard,R3 can play it on high settings with shadows on high at 30+ FPS (Mainly MrDeevu's guide to which M11X you should choose)

And yep if you play it on R1 it's bottlenecked by the CPU as well.

The resolution doesnt matter with the r1, you can even crank the settings to medium at 1366x768 resolution and you would have the same ~20 FPS, the problem is the Bottlenecking CPU like Divineaura said. The only solution I know of is to do a pinmod. But YES GET AN R3! The CPU is far better and the 540m is about 25% better over the 335m.

Yes, it seems to be clear. As soon as I go back to 1,3 GHz with the clock the FPS goes down. On the other hand oc the GT335 has nearly no effect!

Yes, a decent OC on the 335 should get you to stock 540 performance. The bottleneck, as you've discovered, is the CPU.

It seems that compared to the U7300 all the i3/5/7 options are so much more powerful. Even the i3 is close to the other. Is it really worth it to go with the i5? If 540M is only 25% more than the 335M the i3 is the way to got with 1368x768, isnt it?

I saw that Dell offers the 550M with the M11x in the US?

    See:

    Mobile Processors - Benchmarklist - Notebookcheck.net Tech

If you restrict to 7M it will show all options with the M11X (and a little more)

i5 is the largest step and might be worth the price. But the i7 isnt. Is it possible to oc the i3 to the speed of the i5? I cant see other differences than the frequency.

No dont get the i3, you cant overclock it at all. It's perminently locked at 1.3ghz, The best choice in terms of money is the i5, go for it!

For Battlefield 3 i would suggest to get the higher CPU you can , as the game is really CPU demanding.

On other game , sure the 540 will not get you to really high performance , but if you plan on playing BF3 , i would suggest you to get the higher CPU you can.

+1. And then, if at all possible, OC your CPU (and GPU too) to stretch out your system as far as it will go.

I got both. R3 is far mor powerful, but also makes more heat. R3 is 3D ready with Nvision.
