ok. so i just installed titans quest gold edition, and i was wondering if there was a way to get around playing it without the c.d. the c.d. key doesn't match one i can register on steam. i remember on my old acer netbook there was a program that emulated a c.d. i used for marine sharpshooter and prince of persia. but don't remember what it was.

This isn't the place to ask those kinds of questions. In fact it might be against the TOS. Just google it.

Cause it is illegal, and you can buy an external disc drive.

definately didn't know it was illegal, i figured there would be something b/c with Diablo 2 you could copy a file from the cd onto your diablo 2 file and the game would play without the disk. And that info was given by blizzard. my bad

Just go to bestbuy and get a external cd drive

Daemon Tools (among other drive emulators) will allow you to play the game using an ISO (assuming TQ doesn't scan for an emulator and block it). Making a digital copy of your game *should* fall under fair-use copyright law, but I guess that depends on the country you live in. The main disadvantage of doing it this way is that it will take up a lot of space (and occasionally doesn't actually work). Another way is to use a no-CD/DVD patch. These patches are occasionally provided by the developers themselves, but most of the time they're third-party reverse-engineered EXE's.

It should be noted that, at least under US copyright law (see below), it is probably not illegal to use no CD/DVD cracks to run software on your computer (according to this Wikipedia article, anyway). Rules will vary in different countries obviously.

Yeah, Bungie released the 1.08 patch, which removed the CD check of Halo PC.

And is not official, I mean, is not aproved by Microsoft, they released it because even with a DVD drive in the computer, the need of the disc inside is a problem...

That´s why I now buy all from Steam, just non steam games I got them in disc, and I try to search the non disc patch, even if is a hack....

The only problem with steam is that you always need to think wether you are going to be able to have a net conection and remember, if not, to ensure the games are all updated and make sure you set steam to offline mode before you shut down your machine.

Be very careful with no cd hacks, I learned the hard way that they can have some very nasty things hidden in them
