while playing portal 2 with my R1 with no overclock on the GPU I get artifacts on the screen (black flashing lines) randomly. I don't get this on any other game though...

but with OCCT on the GPU test with error checking I didnt get any errors on it. though when I did the memtest GPU test I got errors (dont know if its normal or not to get)

with ATItool I get artifacts on my GPU on the artifact test with no overclock.

with bairly any overclock on my system 525/1350/790 i get artifacts like mad on any stability test, if I overclock the VRAM at all it goes crazy.

    Im on 270.61 drivers.

is my GPU defective? Should I get it replaced? I have only owned this system for a month.

    I have the same issue...

IDK what the problem is, but I find that if I underclock(by a lot) the GPU everything works fine :( its just a bandaid, but it makes portal2 playable...

have you had your board replaced at all yet? I'm thinking I might, im just wondering if it would do anything or not, or if this is normal behavior.

Gooface, it sounds like you have bad Vram? Does this happen with any other games? Same with you, whitrzac.

Hmm... Drivers maybe? Thats most likely it, since it just came out. And the hinge just went? That sucks.. Mind running the memtest on the Vram? If you don't get errors, I bet that gooface's VRAM is bad.

Turn on Vsync and see if that helps... Sometimes games with high FPS cause visual tearing. Vsync prevents this

Good point. I had that happen on the original portal on my M9750 since it went over 100 FPS.

I'm getting the artifacts as well. Changing settings in Portal w doesn't do the trick..and I still get them on an external display...maybe it's possible our batch was bad? when did you order yours? i ordered mine (new) in February.

Although this is the ONLY game I get these artifacts so far...

Maybe this is an R1-only issue, which would make drivers the likely culprit, considering we need special hybrid drivers for our system to keep the switchability between the Intel graphics and the nVidia card. If it as an R1-only issue, maybe we could gather other R1 users to test it. If we all get it, we ought to all get ahold of Dell together to get them to get us an update, preferably without us having to hack one...lol

yeah I get errors on that test, every time I run it too, the first time I ran it I got 13 errors.

I have hybrid graphics turned off as well.

I ordered mine around the beginning of April (its a referb though, and if I recall it correctly the manufacture date was around February.

hmm, so its not normal then (read online at various sites saying that the test was flawed and reported errors when there were none, guess they were wrong) because mine reports errors every time with the 10 passes.

first time I ran it it was 13, the 2nd time 7, etc... all on stock..

ok, going to call alienware then.. hope I can get a new Mobo..

yay after 2+ hours talking to them on the phone they are sending out a "tech" with a new motherboard and thermal kit (heatsinks) so YAY I hope this new one is issue free!

the tech was trying to tell me that I set the games on too high of settings and that this laptop doesnt have a very high end videocard... (portal 2)

I told him that should never ever give me any artifacting issues...ever..

    so he said

    "clearly its a GPU problem"

lol whatever, Im getting a replacement so YAY!!

thats exactly what I told you. Turn on vsync to limit the frame tearing. I guess you overlooked my post and decided to stay on the line for 2 hours and now send your computer back in for a "replacement", enjoy a refurbished GPU that will probably last 1/4 of the time your original did.

Vertical sync was on by default, my unit was originally referb anyways. so it was probably just bad, plus I ran other tests like ATItool that reported artifacts every 5 seconds.
