I was wondering if anyone knew a good spot to buy a power adapter for a R1 M11x. I was searching the Dell site and couldn't find one. I am aboard so it is important to me to have a spare (especially since my wife was just without her computer for three weeks because her a/c adapter stopped working!). Thanks ahead of time.

PS. Whoever can point me in the right direction can have a extra guest pass I have for Starcraft II if they want it. Figured I would throw it out there.

Any 90w Dell AC adapter will do. Ebay is littered with them. You can also use 3rd party universal adapters.

Alienware shares the same power adapter as other Dell computers. And all Dell computers share the same power adapter as every other Dell made in the past 10+ years. There are some minor exceptions for laptops that are extremely power hungry. But for something like the Alienware M11x, you should be fine.

So, you can buy any power adapter that will work with a Dell laptop. You should be able to find loads of those adapters inexpensively, anywhere in the world. Adapters made by 3rd party companies like Targus, Kensington, iGo, etc will also work just fine.

Is there any reason for why the r2 gets 90W ac adapter while r1 gets only 65W ac adapter? GPU is the same... Would that be just because of the i# CPU in the r2?

They use different style power bricks. The R1 uses a brick that has a profile shape more like a square. The R2 uses one of the Dell Slimline power adapters, which is flatter and wider.

Most Dell laptops these days come with the same Dell Slimline power adapter that ships with the R2. My guess as to why they switched power adapters is because of costs - it is cheaper to manufacture and use one model of a part, rather than try to use two different models. The wattage difference between the R1 and R2 power adapter is irrelevant - They are both more than enough for the M11x R1 or R2.

I'd assumed that the R2's power requirements were why we were seeing the 90w adapter. Thanks for clearing that up, kent1146.

I was wonder that... since the gpu is the same, I was not convinced that i# would require 90W instead of 65W.

I would go for a 180W universal targus adapter, that should cover all of the notebooks in your house.

The R2 (the i5 and i7 configs) require a bit more juice, so a 90 watt is required...

Hrm. I've used 65W power supplies on my R2 before without problem.

Maybe you could have a problem with a OC i# + nvidia under stress, I guess.

The m11x does not require a power supply. The m11x runs off of pure AWESOMENESS.

Ah, good point. I could see that being an issue. Thanks for considering that.
