I use my M11X (R3) for audio and video production on the go (perfect!). Recently I tried to record through the Mic port on the right, but the sound quality in Pro Tools was substandard (tried Ableton, SoundForge, SondRec, and a few others, same low quality). I am using an AudioTechnica mic which is pretty decent, if not top-shelf, and it has the computer audio plug. Yes, of course I have a pro mic with XLR plug as well, but I want this Mic to work too.

I deduced that the problem is that M11X actually does not record through the actual Mic plug but through the built-in Mic which is on the lid, both sides of the camera. The quality I got would be exactly as such low-level Mic would produce. Now I wanted to separate the two Mics and disable the built-in one, and use my pro one through the Mic port. This is where the problem is.

In the "Recording devices" there are only two: Microphone (Realtek HD Audio) and Stereo Mix (Realtek HD Audio). I guessed that the first is the built-in Mic (Skype uses it) so I disabled it. However, now when plug my pro mic in the port on the right and record - NOTHING gets recorded. I read somewhere that Stereo Mix is not a real audio input, but some auxiliary device which is not really used, but I don't remember the details.

Also, shouldn't there be two Mics in the "Recording Devices" in the Sound panel? One for the built-in, and one for the Mic plug on the right? I really need to disable the built-in Mic, but enable the Mic input through the port.

    Any thoughts?

Shame there is no response to this... Did you ever get it sorted? I want to use an external Mic as well, using the input port...I don't want to use a USB setup (too much extra to carry).

Did you try changing the Audio Options on the taskbar? not on device manager...
