    Hi

This problem seemed to arise after installing windows 7 SP1... The alienwareFX controller pops up with an error on startup and i think ever since that has been happening, the wi-fi and caps lights in the top right corner have not lit up. All the rest are fine and are rotating according to my theme. Alienware command center opens fine too

anyone had the same issue or found a solution?

    Thanks in advance

Have you looked for an update to alienwareFX. Alot of low level driver related stuff has to be fixed for Windows 7 SP1 and this may be one of them.

I've got dell tech support coming to have a look but i think its just a software incompatibility with alienfx and SP1. Might just have to wait for an update to alienware command center

Be sure to run the installer for the current Command Center.
Once installed, screencap the Device Manager - Dont need processes.

Yeah i couldn't either. Way to do it is delete all the contents of the Alienware Command Center directory in your Program Files. To do this u'll hav to get ur task manager open and end both the AlienFusionController.exe and AlienwareAlienFXController. if there is a process called something like alienfxtester end that too. One of them (cant remember which one) wont end without a fight and keeps restarting when u end it. the trick is to delete all the files in the directory then when it says the file cant be deleted because it is open, end the process in your task manager and quickly click try again. If ur fast enough u can get rid of the file. Install/run CCleaner when ur done and also get it to repair ur registry

Ok didnt know which devices you meant exactly so expanded the lot....

Tried what you said laz91.. the error pops again at installation and it just stops at removing backup files.. also when i try to delete the alien tester in task manager it gives me the error again.. can't change or turn off my lights ><

To get the installation to complete u can keep ending all the alienfx controller processes in task manager and eventually the installer will finish and tell u to restart ur computer. Unfortunately this dosnt help as even when u restart and try to launch the application again, none of the settings u change will actually work. What i did was completely get rid of alienware control center like i said before using CCleaner so i dont keep getting the alienfx controller errors and am now waiting for an updated version of the software from dell and responses to this post. I also called support and a technician is supposed to come take a look but hopefully he can help with software errors because im certain after running the alienware startup diagnostics that theres nothing wrong with the hardware. Personally i think it will just take an update from dell..

BTW this problem appeared to happen after installing windows 7 Service Pack 1 for me; when did it appear for u kfruit or Bluesickle?

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is what screwed me up too.

Laz91, I did as you suggested and went into program files to get rid of everything CC related - as well as AlienFX related. I even ran Revo Uninstaller to make sure that I got everything out. Then, I ran CCleaner to fix the Registry. Frustratingly, AlienFX Controller keeps coming back.

To be honest, I don't know my next step here.

Oh! And like Kfruit, my install also aborts as it attempts to remove the backup files.

Ok - an easier way to get rid of it. Start ur alienware in safe mode (easiest way to do this is to press the start button and type "msconfig" in the search box then enter. Go to the "Boot" tab at the top and then check the "Safe Boot" option. Press apply then ok then restart ur laptop when prompted)

Once uv booted in safe mode you need to go into ur program files and find the Control center directory eg "C:\Program Files\Alienware\Control Center". There should be 1 or 2 files left in the directory (maybe more). U should now be able to delete these. Also helps to run CCleaner both the cleaner and registry repair whilst still in safe mode (can kill things that cant be killed while Windows is booted normally)

Type msconfig in the start menu again, select "Normal Startup" option, go to boot tab, uncheck safe boot, press apply then ok then restart ur laptop when prompted

That should get rid of the program for good. Unfortunately we still have the problem of not being able to control alienFX. Seems like its an incompatibility issue with SP1 then.. Come on dell give us an update... anyone know how we can let dell know the program needs updating urgently?

Oh and if people want try the old version and seeing if that miraculously works: http://supportapj.dell.com/support/...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=392207

I was changing up my graphics card driver from 260.99 to the newest one for a completely different reason and encountered an error while uninstalling the old one. After a restart it worked though and now my AlienFX and CC are back to normal :S

Oh. My. God. kfruit have made my day; +1 rep for u. Alienware Control Center installs and works PERFECTLY after updating the graphic card driver to v266.58. Does not make one scrap of sense to me but who cares - its fixed! Now to tell this Dell technician he is no longer needed...

Oh and for those too lazy to find it themselves heres the link to download the newest NVIDIA driver NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL

    Enjoy!
