hi
I had a problem with my hinges where the right side was sort of poking out ie not flushed to the system, so dell technician replaced it and now the screen doesnt' close flush to the base. They say it is normal compared to their sample unit- however this wasn't like that earlier before replacement.
Can i check with u all, when looking from the front, does the screen close flush to the base? I have to put pressure on the screen for it to close but it springs back when i release the pressure
thx

there's a thread a mile long on this issue

As silicondrifter82 said, there's a super long thread on this, but the quick answer is that the hinge problem is common, and after screens are replaced they tend not to close flush to the base.
I've had three replacement screens, and all have not closed as flush as my original screen did. Personally I think this is due to a poor wire routing job by techs. -
sorry for being a newb, so it's normal for it to be like this? i will post a picture when i get back though. it looks worse in a different way- at least before it was one side which wasn't flushed, now it is both, and it is a really large gap- almost like there is a small piece of rubber stuck inside the keyboard

anyway for what it is worth, i've taken the picture of this, would appreciate any comments.

As long as the hinges are working fine and the screen is aligned with the base, I wouldn't worry.

I have to admit, that would bug me too! I don't know, when you shell out big bucks for a new computer that has a fault, should we really be settling for having the computer less then perfect after "the fix"? Maybe if we are all very picky and demand they keep coming back to fix it right, they might actually think about really designing a suitable fix for the hinge issue, and not just continue producing new computers with the same damn issue. Seriously - This is really something they should have learned after dealing with the hinge issue on the M15x isn't it?
Don't get me wrong, I love my computer and so far my hinges seem fine. But I hate this feeling of impending doom of if or when the hinges will fail... -
Its normal
My gaps got better in time btw -

the screen isnt even touching the rubber, i looked at pictures posted in reviews, they were nothing like that when closed though. i should have stayed with sonys in the future, didnt had any problem with my vaio tz, it was built to perfectly with non of this nonsense

You asked and people gave you input. What are you trying to achieve by keep nagging about it here? If you are not happy, keep calling Dell and go for another LCD replacement, but I highly doubt you will end up with what you want, and will probably end up with worst than it is now. Like I said, the closed get should get better with use, but I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not.
Do what most people do here. Enjoy it and call dell when it breaks. -
We have enough hinge threads... post in one of those.
