I came across this awhile back. Both the i7 2657 (1.6 Ghz) and the i7 2677 (1.8 GHz) look like perfect candidates for the M11x R4 refresh. What are your thoughts?
Check this link out for info:
Ultra low voltage Core i7 2677M comes in Q3

oh yay another speculation thread!
but seriously, the R3 just came out, dont expect the R4 for another year. -
I got my R1 abit over a year ago and 6-ish months later R2 come out and now i've got a R3(roughly 6 months after R2 launch) -
I would expect an m11x refresh to have the next series of processors. At most those would be added to the r3. The 2657 is used in some of the prerelease reviews so I expect to see that.
-
M11x R2 --> M11x R3 was about 10 months (June 2010 to April 2011) -
With the R3 being fairly different than the R1/R2
(Processor AND graphics processor)
I don't expect a remake for another 10+ months. -
R4 needs a fresh design.

Meanwhile, chance is that the R3 will have configuration options for the faster ULV CPUs mentioned, (Core i5-2557M (1.7GHz), Core i7-2637M (1.7GHz) and Core i7-2677M (1.8GHz)) also speculated be used by the new MacBook Air refresh coming up. -
Sorry about the "speculation" thread. I guess I just wanted to throw this information out there in regards to the different processors and the possibility that they may be introduced into the m11x.
-
i think the next revision is the m14x, needs more options
m11x will get like in 6-10 months -
I want to see it the exact same size but with a 12.1" screen and offset arrow keys. A 12.1" screen will fit in the same bezel area and there is no reason to keep the keyboard perfectly rectangular (move the arrow keys down a bit into that big empty area to the right of the touchpad; extend the right shift key).
I also wouldn't mind an enlarged touchpad ala MacBook Air.
WHY NOT?!
Also, the tiny rear rubber feet eventually come off not matter what you do. There is no reason for them to be that tiny. Any engineer knows that the same forces are being applied to a much smaller area and will easily tear them off. The one that mounts to the baseplate can be pushed in because of the metal splitting cleanly around the stamped-in area on the baseplate. They need to fix that.
The other little annoyance is the power plug hole is in-line with the vent holes so you will dent fins when trying to plug it in blindly. Even if you set the laptop down, close the lid, and walk around behind it, you will STILL have to plug it in blindly unless it's on some ridiculously high surface because the esternal hinge bulge blocks the view from above. There is no reason for it to stick straight out either. Logically, it should be L-shaped. WHY NOT?! -
I have the r1, and I'm definitely behind on the requirements for most games now. I can only really play sc2 and source games, and most single player games on medium settings.
I will wait for the r4, and get it as soon as it releases. The r3 came out as i bought the r1, so i got a nice discount. I'd like to see 2.0ghz+ options for the processor, but of course you can't compare clock speeds cross-architecture. -
The real question is what GPU its gonna use.
-
And btw: the turbo boost already pushes the r3's well above 2ghz; 2.3 for the i5 and 2.6 for the i7 -
I'm waiting for a low voltage quad. Until then, I'll use my R2 until it falls to pieces.
-
-
When are CULV quad cores expected?
-
I dont know it it will even matter, very few games use quad cores effectively so most are aimed at Dual core machines. What Im hoping for is maybe find a way to cram a 555m in it
-
It won't be a 555M, more likely a 640M. (Guessing the nomenclature)
*secretly prays they go to a 28nm AMD GPU* -
I hope my M11xR1 just keeps going.
