Hello!
I am seriously thinking about buying the M11x R2.
I have got 2 questions about the m11x -
1. For how long do you think the m11x R2 (i7) would be able to run games, before it gets to old? i don't expect the highest settings but still i don't want to waste 1K box and find out that in half a year the M11x is useless for games (new games ofc).
2. the main games i play are -
WoW
SC2
TF2
and mabye some COD.
how the m11x handles these games?, someone knows how Cataclysm works on it (Beta)?
Thanks again guys!
and sorry for my poor english.

I play WoW on mine at ultra settings with no problems at all. Ran a 10-man ICC raid last night. I was getting over 70fps in certain areas. From what I've heard, if you already have the latest 4.01 patch, you should be able to run Cataclysm without any problems either.
I also just downloaded TF2 and it runs smoothly as well. Check out youtube for gameplay videos to get more of an idea of how the M11x R2 runs the game.
My specs are Core i5, 4GB of RAM and 250GB HD. Overclocked CPU via BIOS to 162 with no problems. -
Thx for the help.
can someone please answer the first question?, and i would also be happy to hear about SC2.
i really appreciate the help. -
wow powerful little thing, make me almost wish i get an M11x vs M15

No one can predict how long it will be relevant. The question relies on gauging games that aren't out yet, which is impossible. Your best bet is to stick with figuring out how well it plays the games you currently play (which you're already doing
). That said and at the risk of contradicting myself, I doubt it will not play anything coming out six months from now.
WoW and SC2 have been covered at great length on the forum, and a search should turn up the threads to answer your question about those -
I don't recommend it for tf2. I have very low fps and performance in cs:s which is on the same engine right now and tf2 is more hardware-exhausting game so if you are competitive tf2 gamer, forget it

My m11x I7 runs css, tf2 ect. at highest settings with AA and 60fps.
I can run wow on ultra however for the best possible performance i lower shadows down 1 notch and view distance at half for better load times. It should be noted the water cannot be set above fair and sunshafts are not working after 4.0.1. But blizz is now aware of the problem and a fix is probably in the works since it effects all optimus computers.
SC2 also runs well but it can drop to 25fps on some maps/missions when on ultra but it is still very playable. It can also get a little choppy in huge games with massive army's fighting.
If you do get it i would recommend overclocking the cpu and running throttle stop. -
I think as long as half our games are xbox360/ps3 console ports the current m11x will be relevant for gaming.
For the games you listed it should be fine. -
if you want to buy a laptop for 1k that will plays games for the next few years, I don't recommend the M11x. I'm guessing that 1 year from now, PC games are going to be quite demanding, and you'll be playing every new game on the lowest settings. M11x is good for the occasional gamer, but not good enough for the hardcore gamer.

m11x is for travel warriors that like to game (me). But for $1000 the MSI GX640 is worth a look if gaming and power trumps weight and form factor.

m11x is great for it's size. has quite a bit of juice in it and capable of running quite a bit of stuffs out there even the most current games. probably not everything at the highest settings but still at a respectable settings for the size of the laptop. wow, tf2, sc2, cod m11x can easily handle those if you are not expecting everything in ultra mode and still sustain a playable framerate. but before making a conclusion in buying m11x you have to ask yourself one question. why did you choose this laptop in the first place? i personally believe this laptop is not meant for everyone. Also this laptop is also not design in the first place as an uber gaming house. It has the juice for those but not entirely for that purpose. There are definitely more better options out there to look at if you are looking for a pure gaming laptop. I personally choose m11x due to the form factor. And this is also the main buying point of this machine since thats what this machine is really design to be. for someone who needs something small and portable yet able to play main stream games. I believe at the point of time when I buy this (which is at launch of R2) there is nothing of this size that can do what it can do of cuz there are many more bigger brothers out there that can easily own this machine. But for the size in similar there's none. I think this statement should still be valid now. I could be wrong. But thats what I have know up to this point of time. This little beast can handle my FFXIV at medium high settings in 720p. No way it cant handle what you have listed. But do rethink again why you choose this laptop as this will be an important point. If you expect this to perform like a gaming powerhouse that allow you to run everything at ultra setting with 60fps. I am 100% sure you will get disappointed as its not meant to be use like that.

I am not a hardcore gamer, but i do expect that "alienware" computer would be able to run most of the "mainstream" games.
anyway thx for the help guys. -
I agree that this laptop will be adequate until the next console systems (ps4, xbox 720?) come out. 90% of the games these days are deigned with the limitations of today's consoles. Lucky for us, that means our m11x's should be good for some time yet. But yeah, I recommend you don't buy the m11x if it's just going to sit in a room or rarely be moved, you buy it for the portability. There are better choices otherwise.

It's in the Alienware lineup because it's powerful for it's size, not because it's powerful.
Question about R2 performance
