Hi all, just took delivery of my new shiny R2. Was a bit worried about build quality but my fears were unnecessary. It feels really sturdy and well put together. No squeaky hinges and all case parts fitted well.

As expected the screen is not the best in the world but its not really any worse than my Vostro 1700 (another excellent and solid Dell lappy and far better than its replacement the 1720)

Not done any gaming on it as yet. Just getting it all set up how i like, removing crapware and installin all the apps i need. Done a recovery partition backup to USB. Everythin goin smoothely so far

I've seen a few reviews slating the touchpads on the m11x but in all honesty i think its one of the best i've ever used! Tracking is great and i'm really loving the pointer momentum thingie. Makes life much easier. Not really sure how i ever managed without it!

Anyway, gonna give portal and borderlands a go in a bit and see how this thing performs. Oh Spec is i5 4gb 320gb and delivery in UK was 17 days from ordering.

    Rob.

You think the touchpad is good too? So do I!
I honestly don't know why people say it sucks.

I love the trackpad as well. It was bigger than I had actually thought. Keep in mind that I came from the unibody MBP trackpad, so for me to actually like any thing else says a lot. Haha.

Yeah, the pads pretty big too. Bigger than my 17" desktop replacement anyway.
I really dont get all the complaints. I'm new to the machine, just getting used to it and I already love it! Even the texture (which i dont usually like) is real nice.

Just gave Borderlands a quick go. Plays flawlessly with the i5 btw. Seriously gonna need a mouse for gaming though. Any recommendations? Wireless is a must!

I use the Razer Orochi myself. It's a bluetooth mouse so when it's wireless it's not the best for gaming, however using it in wired mode the mouse really shines. I love this mouse and have used it to play 20+ hours in Fallout 3. I highly recommend it.

Id get an orochi.. but iveheard about the 2sec idle freeze.. on bluetooth. But when you don't move for 2 second, it turns off, and it takes a second to turn back.

Its been an issue in the firmware since 2009 but no fix yet. Plz educate me on why its good! :))

I don't know why people think the Razer Orochi is so good. I think it is the idea that it is a Bluetooth mouse, and people think that Bluetooth automatically means good. The 2-second sleep lag makes it totally unusable for me in gaming. I don't know why it gets such good reviews, despite this one glaring problem with it. If you need to plug it in to USB to get around the Bluetooth sleep/lag problem, the you might as well buy a real USB mouse (like a Logitech G5).

If you want a wireless mouse that actually works, get the Logitech Performance MX. Great wireless performance, very small profile dongle, uses less laptop battery than Bluetooth, and can be recharged off of USB when needed (about once per 2 weeks). Most importantly, it is a wireless gaming mouse that you can actually use for wireless gaming.

Talking about wireless mouse, I'm looking into Targus Bluetooth Comfort Laser Mouse.
I saw a lot of good reviews about it. I don't want to use one of my usb ports so I'm looking into this mouse and the razer orochi, but the 2 seconds lag is making me go for targus.

Targus is $30 and Razer orochi $79

    Tough decision!!!

TBH I've only used my Orochi in wired mode because I don't yet have bluetooth. While in wired mode it's great, I tried it briefly in bluetooth mode on my netbook and the 2 second power saving mode was fairly annoying. If you must have wireless as all times I'd say go for the VX Nano by Logitech. I used that mouse for about a month and it performed very well and was very comfortable. The price is comparable to the orochi, however.

Glad to hear your happy. I am exited but also have a bit of apprehension of how mine will arrive. When you read some of the negative threads it makes you question a lot of things.
I suppose its its human behaviour to report negatives or to write a complaint more than a positive first so for every bad one there is probabaly a hundred satisfied customers.
Mine was ordered 13th July left facility on 20th so I think mine will be approx 17 days door to door.
I have nothing to compare it too so I am sure the screen etc will be fine. Wish I could afford a Razer Mouse but too much for me. Went with Anywhere Mx £39.99 on Amazon seems a good mouse from the reviews.

I just pulled my M11xR1 out of the box at 5am this morning and I'm now installing COD4:MW to see how it games. I think the track pad is very good. In fact, I'm using it right now instead of an external mouse. Feels the same to me as is on the Inspiron and better than the M17xR1 that I just got from a user here (both came yesterday). I was also concerned about the quality of the laptop and I am pleased with it. The screen is glossy but no worse than my Dell Inspiron 11Z and I didn't have a problem with that. My HP DV7 was only a 3.8 WEI and this is a 4.6 so I'm happy. I love the switchable graphics. I'll report back after I see how it games in a few minutes.

Edited: I just ran Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and it runs beautifully. I'm stoked.

Ah, the Anywhere MX is top of my list so far. Hows the battery life on that thing? Also anyone tried a microsoft mobile mouse 4000 or 6000? Those are next on the list...

I have tried microsoft's wireless mice but they're just not meant for gaming, the latency is too noticeable for me, however I have a Razer mouse and it's the best I ever had.

The reviews I saw on the Anywhere MX say that the batteries last about 1-3 months on 2x AA alkaline batteries. It's a nice little notebook mouse. Looks very nice, very sharp tracking, with nice thumb buttons and that awesome free-spinning mouse wheel.

You might also be interested in the Logitech Performance MX. It's the bigger version of the Anywhere MX, if you have larger hands or prefer a contoured mouse. Uses a rechargeable battery that charges off of a USB cable, so you never need to swap batteries.

I also think the TouchPads great, but I do use the free Alienware tactX mouse for gaming (came free with my M11x). Excellent mouse, perfectly matching the M11X.

Also use a small Microsoft BT5000 mouse for general everyday use.

How did you get the free mouse with the laptop, Psikey?
