Sorry if this has been asked before, but the 100+ page thread is... cumbersome to look through.

I recently got my m11x r1 and am looking into performing/have performed a pin mod for it.

I used SetFSB to determine which PLL I have, it looks like it's the SLG8SP513V. The strange thing is, SetFSB shows my CPU at 1729.1 mhz.

    However, RealTemp says I'm 1596.

But wait, there's more! Windows system properties say I'm at 1.73.

End result? I'm thoroughly confused. Could anyone help me make sense of this? Am I really at 1.73ghz? If not, I would still need to cut pin 2 (or whichever) to get to 1.73ghz?

    Thank you.

I would trust RealTemp over Windows. Personal experience at least says this. No support but my R1 definitely was 1.6 don't know if earlier models hit 1.73 or not. Hopefully someone a little less vague like my self can fill in the gaps. BUt those are my two cents.

I bought this R1 about 2 months ago, refurbished from Dell. Do you think it's possible they used some newer mobo that might be allowing 1.73?

For clarification, I thought the OC option in the bios was SUPPOSED to put it to 1.73, but it only puts it to 1.6 correct?

Correct. The Overclock takes it from 1.3 to 1.6 (or should). Pretty sure I've heard some programs read 1.73 for some reason but the true clock speed is unfortunately 1.6

    Ah ok.

So... if I wanted to get it up to 1.73, all I need to do is cut pin 2. And thats it? No messing with SetFSB or any software like that?

And further from what I understand, cutting pin 2 is actually beneficial for going for the 2.0ghz mod since it disables going to 400mhz clock speed (I hope I understood nando4's post correctly).

it runs at 1.6 with the stock overclock. and 1,73 with the pin 2 mod. iv done this mod about 5 times. or you can do the solder job and get 2ghz.

Guys, this is not joke. I used Wizards CPU Speed tester that runs in Actual time and I got 1729.1 GHz and I haven't even tampered with the motherboard! I think the new mobos of the R1 might allow it.

lol no. that program must be faulty. run a benchmark, and my point be proven.

Like I said earlier some programs register is incorrectly.

Thanks everyone for the intel/clarification here.

    2 last things though (hopefully):

1). So just for clarity, to implement the 1.73 mod for the SLG PLL all you have to do is cut pin 2? Nothing else? Cut and done?

2). Does implementing the 1.73 mod come with the same "disadvantages" as listed in DavyGT's post? At least the first 2 issues seem to be ICS related since they use SetFSB (the SLG mod DOES NOT use SetFSB, correct?). But what about the third? If I did any of the soldering mods, would any/more of these "disadvantages" come up?

Thanks again for everyone's help, kudo's all around.

When you overclock in the bios, the multiplier gets locked to its minimum which is 6.0. The default maximum multiplier is 6.5 but this is not available after a bios overclock. Run CPU-Z to confirm. RealTemp is showing the 6.0 multiplier and so will ThrottleStop. Some old tools assume that you are using the maximum multiplier.

So it looks like it is indeed running at only 1.6ghz. Thank you for that tip unclewebb.

Not to sound too needy (ok, I am), but would anyone mind answering some of my questions at the bottom of the first page? I would greatly appreciate.

    Thanks!
