I just tried to switch from the gt335m to integrated gpu (by hitting fn+f6), and I got a black screen. I waited a while and tried hitting keys, moving the mouse etc. but nothing would make the screen come on. So eventually I just hit fn+f6 again and the screen came back on (albeit in increased performance mode once again). Anyone know what could have cause this? Would a driver update perhaps fix it? If so where would I find said driver(s) and what would be the best one to use?

Also on a completely unrelated note, I can't get custom alienfx lighting to work for openoffice - openoffice shows up in the command center alienfx applications list, and all the other programs I have set up to use this feature work, but for some reason openoffice won't work. I've tried it with Openoffice.org, the Openoffice.org Base, and the Openoffice.org Writer (the one I use), and even combinations of the above, but nothing works. I doubt anyone will be able to answer how to fix this but if you do, +1000000 rep :D

For the R1, only use the drivers that are supplied on the Dell support website. Installing the normal Nvidia drivers from Nvidia will prevent you from be able to use the intergrated Intel.

Close. Installing standard Intel drivers will not allow you to use Nvidia. Installing standard Nvidia drivers does not work at all on a Hybrid Graphics notebook (unless you set the bios to use only the discrete GPU first, but of course then Hybrid Graphics and the Intel GPU are disabled). But you are correct you must install Hybrid Graphics drivers on a Hybrid Graphics notebook, standard drivers wont work.

Sounds like OP may have had a monitor connected to the computer before Windows finished starting up. You could try press Windows Key+P, or restart the PC when the screen is black. (generally, Start Key, right arrow, enter)

I actually don't even own any monitors, so that wasn't the problem - strangely enough, a simple reboot fixed the problem (along with firefox crashing every time I started it up)... hopefully both were just one-time things, regularly having my graphics switching stop working would suck..

I get this same issue very consistently after using the enhanced graphics and switching back to the integrated. It happens after putting the laptop to sleep by closing the lid, and the integrated graphics won't work thereafter, until a reboot.
