you may run into some cutting of the R1 bottom.

for one thing the ports on the left side aren't the same/

but that could easily be fixed buy getting a R2 bottom... maybe???

I have a R2 and I have not seen a R1. Just a thought the F6 does not control anything on the R2 but I believe this how the R1 controls the Graphic card. It might be a problem turning on the graphics card.

Not only would the ports be different but the harddrive has a different connection to the R2 mobo than the R1. I do not think itll be feasible. I know because I tried taking my R1 HDD and putting it in my R2 and I needed an adapter. Just go with the R1

Let's say for argument sake you can get an R2 system board into an R1 chasis...

Yes, you know where this is going...

Why stop there, why not wedge an R3 system board in. Given a bit of research, I'd say the R3 parallels the R2 more closely than the R1 to the R2.

Not sure what the R3 power requirements are without looking.

And if your existing I/O daughter card (USB 2.0) still works then there's a good change, we, the masses and greater unwashed, could then upgrade to a USB 3.0 daughter card (mix and match) when the mode of R1 and R2 owners takes us to do so.

You could be the first penguin to march off in a totally different direction and if you ever came back, you could tell us all about it.

Having owned both an R1 and R2 and knowing them very well inside and out, no, you can't change to an R2 board because the screw holes are changed slightly. The inner corner of the access plate has a screw moved inwards, indicating a change of the internal structure. An extra screw is added near the power socket. The power socket connection also changed from being a wired connected to being soldered onto the board.

The daughter board may be compatible though.
