Hey guys,
I got my invite to play alpha and since I've seen a lot of asking on how it'd do on the R2 I made a gameplay video of it being played in 1080p.
Since I am not playing in native resolution I overclocked to 550/1404/850 as well as to counteract any optimization issues that are happening in alpha.
Battlefield 3 Footage-M11xR2
Edit: Just incase the one above is taken down because of the N.D.A. here is another one I posted on a separate account:
Battlefield 3 Alpha - Alienware M11x Revision 2
I got about 30-45fps at the start, and about 20-30 in heavily graphic areas like that subway at the end. Overall I think this game will be more than playable on this system.
I hope the same can be said for the R1, I'm keeping my eye on that thread. Feel free to suggest anything else. I'll get a video of a native res gameplay if I get the chance. I was just messing around for this one.
Edit: For those that can't get my FPS, Make sure you have throttlestop, are using high performance in Nvidia Control Panel, AND have pre-rendered frames set to 0. All will boost your performance.
-
Awesome! How does it feel when playing at the laptops native resolution?
How much fps? -
I knew it this game will play better then BFBC2. And Beta or TFR would be more optimized.
-
Roughly the same as in 1080p (I play native without the overclock). So 30-40. Less of a drop in that subway though. I'd guess 25-35.
-
Wow that is running better than I thought (especially since its only in alpha). What fps do you get when you play on a full 64 player server?
-
Yeah im afraid when you get in a full 64 person server its going to take a hit on the FPS. Hopefully not tho
-
Nice footage and the game does play well, even in alpha.
Removed my uploads from earlier due to EA NDA -
They do not have 64player maps available in alpha. The 32 player matches play pretty well for my expectations. Depends how many people are running around with rockets.
-
-
It's nice to see how well it performs. I would definitely be worried about those 64 man maps. I notice a difference on BF2 on 16 man maps versus 32.
My goal is to play this game on high and truly enjoy it so that is why I just had a friend build me a desktop. However I'm VERY glad to see the R2 still has a lot of fight! -
thats amazing
-
Man, I am so pleased that BF3 is running so well even if it is only the alpha. I had my doubts but you guys have proven them wrong. Looks like I'll have to preorder...
-
Now to see if Modern Warfare 3 does as well
-
With the overclock it gets about 40-50fps
Without an overclock it gets about 30-40fps.
Everything is done with throttlestop.
we will see. Can't really tell the differences between medium and high in the native screen anyway.
My next goal will be to build my own desktop. Enjoy that thing! Not too viable for college haha. -
If I can get 30-40 fps playing online on the lowest settings with my stock OC'd R1, I think that would be the most amazing thing ever.
-
-
is it running in DX9 or 10?
-
Did your M11x crash at the end of the video?
-
-
-
Rest in peace NDA

Battlefield 3 Runing good on R2....?????
Best news I ever heard for this years......
+1 rep for your submitted video...., this really good news.... -
game files: i want now! LOL

I was accepted into the BF3 Alpha this morning, and I really hate to say this... but the performance is not great. In a crowded multiplayer match, the framerate was not good. even with 164 and throttlestop, my framerates were not smooth at all. They were stuck in the low 20's, even on the lowest possible settings.
I never saw my framerate go above 25. Even overclocked to the max. Just like Bad Company 2, the shadows look like too.... all blocky and jagged. I'd almost rather turn them off completely.
I uploaded the game running on my M11x R2 onto my youtube channel:

Specs are in the description. -
I tried playing the alpha on my R1 and to put it shortly...I can't. It says I need version 275.39. I have 263.xx from Dell. Does anyone know a work around to get it to start?
-
-
-
if the game can work on stock speeds then it's all good!
-
-
I'm guessing the Punk Buster issue has been resolved? I stopped paying attention to the whole thing after I couldn't play BFBC2.

I also am playing the Alpha on an m11 R2 I-5. Its very playable in 1376 x 768 with motherboard overclocked to 166 and throttlestoped. Higher res on an outside monitor starts to slowdown to between 20-30 frames on Auto.(my monitor does 1600 x 1050) Considering its an Alpha I am very excited that I will have an enjoyable exdpierence with the full release on my little baby! I am starting to overclock with setpll and EVGA to see what kind of performance I can squeeze out of it. I have not overclocked outside the BIOS settings before so its a work in progress.
-
Just a note to everyone that is getting lesser frames than me. Make sure you have throttlestop, are using high performance rather than quality mode in nvidia control panel, and have set pre-rendered frames to 0 rather than the default of 3. This will significantly boost performance. I've added this to my OP in an edit.

Anybody here tried on the R1 ?
If it works ( even on lowest setting ) , that would prove that they made the engine is really optimised ... I'd love to see -
R1 Battlefield 3: How Will it Run?
I do not know if they have anyone in alpha there but it'd be your best shot. -
Excellent
Off to pre-order BF3!
By the way, what settings do you have for throttlestop? -
-
-
-
Great.
Now only if the game were more like a BF3 game, and less like a BF:BC3 game.
-
This is alpha. We will see where it goes. They have only created one map as of now.
-
So, what TS settings is everyone using and how to set them? Just downloaded the application.
Thanks! -
Click TPL, change TDP/TDC to numbers 30+. Mine are set to 40/40. Click ok. Make sure the set multiplier is set to turbo. Hit save. Then click Turn on.
-
Thanks Deevu for the input, +1 to your rep. This is great news for all R2 owners
-
I might buy the 11x over the 14x.
The 11x im getting wil have the gt 540M, will I be able to run BFBC2 high settings on MP with 30-60 fps along with BF3? -
I am getting my replacement R3 next week because ive had so many issues with my R2 personally (not common) but I can play BC2 at high with about 30fps. BF3 probably will get 30+ FPS on the R3. Doesn't seem like its as demanding.
-
If we had to judge by the alpha alone then the answer to that (for Battlefield 3 at least) is probably no...
Medium at native rez maybe but from what I've read, even respectfully specced M14x's have been given a solid workout with the alpha, given the widespread reports of framerates dipping to the low 20's when everything is set to 'high'.
I've also read that the alpha isn't even using direct x11, but I really can't be sure of that and I'm probably mistaken.
New drivers and an extensively updated and streamlined/tweaked game build after release may make it possible though, just look at the Witcher 2 debarcle!
