This is so annoying the fan on my M11x will NOT stop running at 100%. I have loaded up BIOS A2-->A4 and am currently using A4. It worked for a few weeks and now it wont turn off with constant restarts. I am using Optimus test tools and the Nvidia GPU is off. What the heck can I do to fix this? I have read all other threads on the forum but it seems their problems were fixed by updating the BIOS to A4, and that has not worked for me.

Went through pretty much everything with Alienware Support and they are going to send a tech to replace the fan. I am almost positive this is not the problem. I have noticed the fan starts to act up when on battery power. When I plug it in and turn it on and off a few times it fixes the issue. Any ideas?

The only things I could think of that would cause something like that are if the copper cooling blades are caked with dust, or if the heat sink is not in good contact with the processor/video chipset. If they're sending a tech, I'd ask him to go ahead and reapply the thermal compound while he's in there - it certainly won't hurt, and will force him to reseat the heat sink, as well.

I am also curious about your CPU and GPU temperatures. Check them using GPUz or piriform speccy and see if they are really high. Idle CPU should be around 50 Celsius and GPU around 46.

They are around 20C(cpu) 30c(gpu) im sure its not a cooling problem.

Did you try downgrading the BIOS to A2 again or at least reloading your BIOS? There are fan tables in there, perhaps your tables are corrupted. Either that or it is a hardware issue IMO.

    Cheers,

   What's your ambient temperature (room temperature) 0-10C
Are you neighbors with Santa? :)

I also think that replacing the fan will not much help. If you can push it and if you want to ask for a replacement (new M11x).

I have tried all the BIOS revisions and it was doing it on and off. Yea its cold in here and was on super cold surface hibernating. I turned it up and fan was going 100% and it was ice cold......

Any ideas? The fan only goes full blast while on battery. I have tried the different battery plans and its always going no matter if its on high performance or power saver.

hey masivB awesome idea. It didn't work unfortunately. The fan is grayed out so I think its gotta be an underlying problem. [IMG]

I am kinda scared to try the thread you posted but this is so annoying, and to say its killing my battery life is an understatement.

Well I went through the other thread DL that program and didnt change a thing and it seems to be working now. Played some R6Vegas and the fan kicked in slightly and kept the system cool. Its not going 100% all the time so thats great. Thanks alot dude hopefully this fix is permanent!
