Master M11x Guru's: Help, the reason being my M11x R2 is using 7% CPU and 38% RAM(4GB) while idle. Help! I know from reading through the forum that the Alien FX stuff is a resource hog on the R1. Can we apply the same techniques to the R2?

You should try it and tell us since you already have it

38% of 4 GB while idle! wow that is high
-
38% is very good for 4GB. I'm surprised it isn't higher. Windows 7 has a very intelligent SuperFetch. Much better than Vista. It'll preload things you frequently use onto your RAM, and dump it when whatever you need actually requires that hardware. Think of it as a Seagate Momentus XT, but on a larger scale, and done through software.

What Poly is trying to say is that Windows 7 will turn some of the memory space into something like a temporary scratch disk. This should help loading stuff quicker. From what I understand, when you start having application running and take memory space, that superfetch suppose to turn down and consume less memory. So, that is normal behavior when you have superfetch. Personally, I don't very like it.

Question: Does it still improve performance to disable indexing on the options menu, on your C Drive?
I remember this helping on XP and Vista!? -
That would depend on which Indexing service you are referring to. There is the old legacy one which is safe to disable. The other one specific to Vista/7 powers the Windows Search, so if you ever WinKey -> Type Something -> Enter to search or run an application, then you may want to keep it on.

Following the M11x R1 optimize thread I've got it down to 0-1% cpu and 23-28% memory
-
As you said, it's safe to disable. Indexing is pretty much a small datadabse of what files are on your computer. In my experience, Indexing helps when you have lots of files on your computer(say, large amount of pictures & stuff), especially combinding with 7200RPM & large HD cache. If you have a slow PC w/ limited resource to begin with (less memory, slow harddrive), indexing could degrade your system even more, as it you take away your resource and running in background and forcing you to use swap space even more.
