OK, I'm building a R3 for my son for Christmas. I have almost everything, but the R3 IO board (XN0XH) is expensive. I know the R2 IO board will physically fit in the R3 chassis and will connect fine but I need to know if it will actually work. As far as I know, the only difference between the two boards is the USB ports. Thanks for any help on this.

The r2 board doesnt work with the r3, we had that issue when trying to put r3 boards onto r1/r2 computers to see if we could get usb 3.0

Based on the advice, I purchased a board off Ebay. Luckily, the seller took my best offer price. Again, thanks for help!

If i remembe rcorrectly, R2 audio board is mechanically compatible with r3 audio board, but not electronically and it will give the error saying CPU not present on r3.

Do you know if there is an I/O board that can be placed in an M11x-R2 that will provide USB 3.0?
I ask because I love my M11x but cannot stand the amount of time it takes to do a full backup of my 1TB SSD hard drive (about 13 hours) via USB 2.0.
