I just got my fully loaded R2 (except no SSD just the regular 500Gb 7200 HD). Although the fan seems to be on most of the time, the machine is still very quiet considering all the power it packs. However I have noticed that the palm rests on either side of the touchpad vibrate noticeably....not THAT much but certainly enough to be very annoying when your hands are resting on the machine. Does anyone else notice this? I'm wondering if it's normal for this laptop.

The only possible source of vibration that I can think of in this machine would be the stock HDD. Its located under the left palm-rest, and the vibrations coming from it should not be severe, if they are there might be something wrong with it. Run a disk check to see whether the disk is ok.

It's very common for 7200rpm drives to have that "tingle". However, some vibrate more than others. My first XT was bad enough that my hands would get numb after about 5 minutes of typing.

Thanks for the feedback. "Tingling" is a better way than "vibration" to describe the sensation. I suppose this is characteristic of 7200 HDDs, and I'll just have to get used to it.....or maybe swap for an SSD!

Er... I have the 320gb HDD and felt no vibration at all while I was installing a 6GB game. Might be worth calling to have it replaced if it bothers you a lot.

My WD Black vibrated alot in my old MSI-Wind, but my Seagate Momentus XT 500 gig is vibration-free and runs relative cool to boot.

I can only feel mine (and just barely) when I am using the HDD... i.e. Loading or saving a large file.

Seagate 7200RPM 500GB HDD and there is a slight 'tingle' on the palm rest.
Use an external USB wireless keyboard/mouse and 24" monitor for lengthy typing so no big deal.

I guess I'm just trying to get a handle on whether this tingling sensation is within normal operating specs or not. When you lay all your fingers flat on each side of the palm rest, do you guys feel it? It's not that serious but I have not experienced this with lots of other laptops.
