If I format C:\ and install Windows from retail discs that I have, is there a driver package I can use?
This is the sad tale of the problems I've had which have led me to ask the question above.
For a long time, on and off, I've had problems with Windows Explorer and the network being very slow to find partitions and folders, and it would take an age to delete files. Not all the time though.
Big trouble started when I installed Speedbit Video Accelerator - Photobucket Uploader (add-on for Firefox) and YouTube Direct Upload both stopped working. So I uninstalled Speedbit but then things got even worse, for example (there's more that I can't remember):
- seize-ups
- message on reboot "LSP not mapped correctly, would you like to remap it" (had never heard of LSP, it's to do with iTunes, says Google and Dell)
- StageRemoteService.exe "instruction at ---- could not be read, click OK to terminate"
- XCP exception breakpoint reached
System Protection had somehow been turned off so I only had one restore point: back to when Speedbit was installed. Have managed to get it off by reinstalling on top and uninstalling with Revo, but am still experiencing severe problems, seizures start after the system has been running for a short time, or after I've asked it to do anything.
I need to go back to factory settings and I can't - the mouse is unresponsive in Respawn (OK when in Windows), I've tried the tab and up/down arrows, nothing. Also unresponsive if I use the restore discs.
Oh, and I can't find touchpad settings to enable that, not that it would do any good necessarily.

If your mouse is unresponsive in respawn, try using a different port. the one on the left is USB 2.0, the 2 on the right are 3.0, use the one on the left.
Also the disks that came with your laptop will give it a full factory format - all drivers and alienware suites installed.
If you just use a retail/OEM disk from somewhere, just go to the Dell website and download the drivers manually. It's quite simple, just put it he service tag under your laptop and it will bring up all the drivers you need. -

Yea the USB 3.0 ports require drivers so they usually don't work outside of Windows, the one port on the left has native support for everything. See if works first before thanking me, that might not be it at all, but you are most welcome

Here is how you do the Windows Installation and where to get the drivers for your machine.

Thank you, LUISAfter reading a bit of that I'm glad I was able to use Respawn rather than resort to my Windows7 discs.
It's not finished yet, when it's customised to my interface etc I plan to clone it onto a bigger drive, have bought a 750gb SATA but am wondering if a hybrid might help speed - I do lots of video editing, never games, plus all other tasks except recording. Could only afford 256gb total SSD, so no increase in storage for me there. -

That's why we are here!
R3 dead-ish, can't use Respawn or backup discs
