Hey all - I am on the fence about RAGE, it looks sweet, but is this finally the game that i need to get for my PS3?

it wont run well if it will at all... 8800 is listed as minimum, maybe with some OC, i'd imagine it would be playable at minimum settings. But then it is just bench scores, and 335 is fairly newer card.
We'll have to wait for someone to test it, but by the looks of it, it probably wont run well. -
Just read a review of this game. I saw it at the store today and almost bought it (bad impulse shopper), but now that I read the review... I am glad I didn't.
-
will it run on m11x r3 ?
-
GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200 required, the GT 335 is better than the 4200, unless Im wrong lol. I'm going to try it on my R1 (1.9ghz)
-
yup, but how well... I would say low-med
-
runs great other than the texture loading issues on my R1,(1.9ghz) get 50-60fps
-
Some guy told me that the game only let you choose resolution, AA and other thing, that is it, the game pick up the rest of the settings, and the game pick up the setting for running near 60fps
So unless you have a driver problem or a problem with the game, the game engine is made to run near 60fps all the time, it adapt to you setup
So you can´t put higher setting and get 30fps... -
Some people don't believe that there is a big difference between 30 and 60fps but when you compare a console game running at 30fps and a game running at 60fps on a computer, there is a huge difference in smoothness. -
i just want to get my hands on it before i commit good monies to it!
-
If you liked Fallout 3 / New Vegas, you will like this game. -
-
There are a lot of reviews out on Rage, including many with gameplay videos.
1UP.com has a nice review of Rage, for you to get a sense of whether you would like it. -
And FYI. The game has an inventory system (buy / sell items to vendors), selectable ammo for weapons, and a crafting system. There is not a character progression / leveling system in the game.
-
Wow - so if the R1 is running it at 60fps, can anyone with an R2 confirm similar experiences?
im trying to hold off dropping 60 bucks at every game that catches my eye =) -
I would say that Rage in the R2 should look better than the R1...
Still, that engine at 60fps is what I read around the web, I can´t test it by myself.... -
I am really impressed with Rage so far. I will definitely pick it up on the next Steam sale.

I also have this on my desktop with the same settings, runs the same and looks the same, but no texture poping.(2x5870s, 4.5ghz 2500k)
the biggest issue with the m11x is the texture pop in, with that link I posted it makes it store more textures, but they still take time to load vs my desktop where they almost instantly load. (might be driver issues on nvidia, or just slow GPU/CPU power of the m11x causing this) -
thats what im aiming at....so far Dark Souls on PS3 is going to sap the next month of my time.... -
video anyone? i am interested but i need something to seal the deal!
-
-
I have my pre order early and am testing now will update asap
-
Ok I have i7 with 2gb nividia gt450 and 4gb sdram. This runs fairly smoothly with a little bit of texture loss in moments (like turning quickly) but nothing too distracting and no tearing.
resolution 1366 x 768 (683:384)
full screen display mode
8x anti aliasing
enable gpu transcode
no slowdown, very smooth but the graphics are less than perfection (m11x was designed as a functional gaming laptop device not superior).
It does work well though and I will play without much trouble (so far).
I am used to console graphics so it may take some time getting use to this.
I updated the nvidia drivers to the latest ones also.
IGN recommended downloading the beta driver too but it does not specify notebooks as being compatible.
If anybody knows otherwise I will gladly listen. -
From what I've read on most gaming sites such as Kotaku and Destructoid the PC release of RAGE has been *really* bad and marred with inconsistencies and glitches galore, last I heard id are scrambling to patch things up whilst Ati (Amd?) and Nvidia are still working on driver issues.
I'm pretty sure there are going to be some extensive updates to Rage within the next fortnight or so, patience is the key here and in all honesty I'd go about and play something else whilst they fix the issues.
Certainly not what you want to hear after shelling out $60 for a videogame but apparently it's been released in a pretty shocking state, what's more surprising is that it's by none other than id software! -
But the game is gonna be patched in the coming days, I guess we should wait.... -
it's more of a game issue that i've seen from all the tweaks that can be done.
-
Actually, as I have tried to explain in another post, the video card memory directly relates to how many textures will be stored in its buffer. Thus, the M11x R1 and R2 will be able to make use of the 8192 setting in the cfg file, while the R3 if you opted for the 2 GB of memory, you will be able to make use of the 16384 setting.
Video memory, its not just for showing off your insane resolutions
BTW, playing Rage now on my R2 and once I applied the modified cfg file, this game is a LOT of fun. Yea, borderlands and Fallout were more fun and more open world and longer, but taken by itself Rage is pretty fun.
Worth $60 fun? Eh...I do feel a bit cheated because they will add to the game via DLC and make it complete, but thanks to EA and all the fools who buy into CoD and the $10 maps, that is the way things are going. -
can anyone chuck up video of the gaming running on the R2 onto youtube?
-
yep they did not prioritise the pc version. they probably had to sacrifice one version and the pc one does need a lot more attention than the consistent standard of consoles (PC being so diverse). This is surprising but I expect they released the PC version early so that they did not pee their PC fans off. Sadly, the bugs are getting in the way far too much at the moment. Mostly ATI though, NVIDIA are said to be in a much more stable way.
-
Works fine on my R3 and looks good
The following steps might not be needed once Rage is patched or Nvidia updates their drivers but for right now these are the fixes I am using
First go into the Nvidia control Panel under the Rage game profile and force Vsync on to stop tearing.
I created a rageconfig.cfg file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\base and pasted these in it to stop texture anomalies on the screen edges while turning.
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 8192
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 8192
vt_pageimagesizeunique 8192
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192
vt_maxaniso 4
image_anisotropy 4
Also I created a folder under my username like this for the cache file. Turn off hidden files and folders under folder options to access the hidden folder.
C:\Users\*YOURUSERNAME*\AppData\Local\id software\rage
I suspect people who went for the I7 with the 2 GB video memory like myself might be a bit glad knowing this game eats up video memory once you bump up the graphic settings. Some settings require 1.5GB and more. Also there are rumours of a high res texture pack that will probably demand even more VRAM -
Does anyone have any vids of the M11x R2/R3 running Rage yet?
-
Trust me a vid running on an m11x will be almost indistinguishable from it running on almost any other PC due to the way the game engine works. It is not like most games that require post processing and other effects that tax the video card. 4GB+ RAM, a decent cpu and a video card with alot of video memory are really what this game loves.
-
i blew $60 USD on this so it better damn work on my M11x! -
I know what he meant I was trying to say that Rage looks very similar regardless of what system it runs on as long as you have decent specs and an NVIDIA card. So pretty much any video on the net showing smooth gameplay will do. It is such a shame that ATI users are having a terrible time running this due to the drivers. The config settings I posted earlier also reduce or even eliminate texture popups on my M11x R3. It looks silky smooth to me
-
well, RAGE finished downloading and it plays ok. does stay between 30 and 60fps. i did record some video so will up that to YT when it's done getting off my phone.
EDIT: here's a youtube vid that i did!
RAGE on the M11x R2 - YouTube
this is pre-doing a cfg file tweak but i have done the following.
- enabled triple buffering in the control panel
- enabled forced v-sync in the control panel
- created the required folder in the appdata/local/ that the game doesn't seem to generate. -
ok, best not to have the GPU transcode option on at all.
-
Heres a video of me running rage on the R3:
Rage on M11x R3 - YouTube
Recorded using fraps at 30 fps, game runs at a smooth 60. -
Anyone tried RAGE on a non-pinmoded R1?
-
since the patch the game seems to go black screen for a few then go back to normal....no idea why though.
-
just installed the patch and set vsync to on and texture to large...plays much better now...no screen tearing or texture pop issues...still running at 60fps most of the time....
until nvidia comes out with an update driver, you will have to force vsync to be on in optimus or else the game will force vsync to be off... -
The only real difference I can detect while playing Rage between my Asus G53JW-SSD (Nvidia GTX-460M) and the Alienware m11x R3 is that I detect no significant texture popping on the Asus, and some (but not super distracting) on the Alienware. I do not see any FPS slowdowns, everything is smooth on both machines.
Rage is definitely playable on the R3. -
Rage M11x gameplay (1080p) - YouTube
This is a video I just uploaded it run perfect. -
I finished Rage on my R3 just yesterday and the visuals were genuinely breathtaking, it's one of the most stunning looking games I've played in years with both technology and artistic design mixing perfectly to create a hauntingly beautiful blasted wasteland, Crysis 2 looks damned average in comparison!
Ran absolutely perfectly for me too, a ridiculous frame rate and no texture popin, other than at the very start of a newly loaded zone that lasts for a whole 5 seconds.
i5 2nd gen, 6GB of Ram and a 7200rpm HDD. No problems at all. I don't understand all the hate Rage got either, other than the terrible ending. I guess my rule of buying PC games when they are reduced in price and patched up and properly working paid off yet again, patience!
