    The m11x says it uses DDR3 @ 800mhz.

I cant find much DDR3 800Mhz RAM is it OK to use something like this:

    Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) CAS 7 Dual Channel Kit

It seems to be identical to the RAM used in the m11x save for the fact that it runs at 1066Mhz instead of 800Mhz. Now I know if this will run in the m11x it will down clock to 800Mhz but I am wondering since the core 2 duo has overclocking in it since the RAM is rated to 1066Mhz when you overclock to 1.6ghz will the ram overclock too im guessing the su7300 isn't an unlocked multiplier so its using FSB to OC and if so would this RAM work even better then the 800Mhz ram?

    1. Will this RAM even work with the m11x?

    2. Since the core 2 duo overclocks to 1.6ghz will this ram run at 1066mhz when the core 2 duo is overclocked?

    3. If the ram does run faster when the core 2 duo is overclocked would CAS 7 1066Mhz ram be better or can the overclock make use of CAS 9 1333Mhz? Basically will I be better off with lower CAS 1066Mhz or Higher CAS 1333Mhz? If the ram doesn't overclock but will at least work then ill go with the lower cas 1066Mhz RAM.

I ask this question because Dell wants 350 dollars for a 8GB ram upgrade and I can buy this Crucial ram for 85 dollars. Roommate is buying a core 2 duo m11x because he wants the longer battery life and all the games he plays are older games from the 90's and early 2000's so the increased proc power isn't needed. He wants the larger RAM space because he likes to make a temporary RAM Drive and run certain things off that super speed drive partition on the ram.

While you're reading if you know of any 500GB+ SSD drives with top tier performance ie. (c300, gen 2 intel, ocz vertex 2/LE like performance) let me know as he is also interested in an SSD but needs 500GB+ of space but doesn't want to settle for a slower performing large capacity SSD wants large capacity as well as top performance and is well aware the price will be quite high.

1033 RAM works with no problem, but it will jsut get downclocked to 800 MHz. It's a ULV CPU limitation.

but what about when u overclock it. Its not an unlocked multiplier so isn't the fsb overclocked which overclocks the ram too

Ram will stay at 800 MHz regardless of your FSB.

Ummm, no. The RAM will overclock as well. Mine runs at 1001.1Mhz with a maximum bus OC to 166Mhz.

    To answer the OP's questions.

    1. yes

    2. an R1 user will be in a better position to answer this question, but the memory should overclock with the FSB (mine reaches 1000Mhz in my R2)

    3. you'll be better off with the memory that has more aggressive timings (the CAS7 1066).

duh... yah im a idiot lol. What I meant to say is with no overclock memory is down clocked to 800Mhz regardless of the speed. I run my R2 at 160Mhz OC and my Ram is running at 962Mhz. Sorry for the confusion.

Does anyone with an R1 know what speed the ram runs at when you overclock to 1.73ghz or 1.6ghz?

I think that's an Arrandale thing. My R1 still has 866 Mhz clock...
