Could someone post what brand of RAM their using, and its clock speed. I'm thinking of getting something other than the stock sticks, but I want to be sure of what's good.

Overall, I just want to know what's better than the stock brand.

Any 1066 RAM will be better than the stock 1333 because of more aggressive timings. Other than that, the only other criteria I would use is reputation and warranty. So I would go with the cheapest you could find of the usual suspects - Kingston, Corsair, Geil, Mushkin, Crucial, etc.

No. At worst it might be 1-2% slower in synthetic benchmarks - not something I would worry about.

Ehh, I got 1066 samsung ram with my m11x with the same timing as the 1066 mushkin kit I bought on newegg. I think they just throw whatever they have in the m11x's cause any ddr3 will work with this laptop.

edit: Im not sure if it even matters because 1333 would get knocked down to 800mhz 6/6/6/15 as well.

i got a Ram brand called Asper or something like that a 1slot 4gb i put it on m11x so now it's 6GB ram it's 1066 also same speed as the samsung one
will it affect any speed or anything on my m11x ?

I would like someone to confirm it but i believe that it doesn't matter if you put 1066 or 1333 ram in the m11x because it gets downclocked to 800 and timings are set at 6/6/6/15 no matter your original speed/timings. The only time it'll make a difference is if you do some heavy ocing using pinmoding and that sort of thing.

M15 uses 204 pin RAM, right? If so then it's a definite YES.

    Edit:
And since this is the thread to ask, I've been shopping around for a RAM upgrade, and I was wondering what I should be looking for, to get a faster system.
I'm thinking something along the lines of this:

Again it doesnt matter what you get because your m11x will underclock the ram to 800 mhz. So if you put a 1066, 1333, or 1600 kit in there it'll all run the same. Im pretty sure timings also get reduced to 6/6/6/15 for each one. So you could go with 1600 but its gonna be a waste of money. I'd also get 4gb instead of 8 as 8 is overkill.

it'll just bump the speed down to the lowest which is 800mhz.

The memory doesn't get downclocked per-se. The memory controller (no FSB on the Core i computers) runs a stock clock of 2x400MHz. It overclocks with the processor, at about 166 (BIOS) it should be running around 1GHz (2x500MHz).

These are my stats per CPU-Z and sisoft sandra. Stock 4gb memory:
    Kingston
    Aggregate Memory Performance 7.42GB/s-7.53GB/s
Aggregate Memory Performance (performance vs. speed) 7.58MB/s/MHz-7.69MB/s/MHz
    FSB speed 1x167MHz
    Memory Bus Speed 2x501MHz
    Channels 2
    Multiplier x3
    Maximum Memory Bus Bandwidth 15.66GB/s
    Timings 6-6-6-15

I tried to make a thread about overclocks and memory benchmarks here, but no one wanted to participate.

Ultimablade related to me that after upgrading to G.Skill 1333 memory his stable overclock dropped. When I last PM'd him he had not re-run any benchmarks, but it is notable that the only G.Skill 1333 memory I can find runs a clock of 9-9-9-24.

That's because it's a pointless exercise unless everyone has multiple sticks of memory lying around. An uncontrollable experiment is an uncomparable one. Having said that, this is a great start and tells us lots of information.

ACK! observed the same thing when he bought an 8gb 1333 CL9 kit. I think that's pretty interesting.

I wouldn't say entirely pointless. We all have the same mobos and processors. As evidenced by the stable overclock anecdotes with 1333 memory, there's still more to learn. We might not have memory just laying around to swap in, but before and after benchmarks in one place would still be valuable.
