So does anyone have one? I saw in the thermal paste application thread but there was no step-by-step instruction. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable with PC hardware but I haven't touched a laptop before, I'm wondering if one existed?

Did you search on you tube ? I'm betting not or you would have found the vids .

There are less than 20 screws to completely disassemble the entire laptop if you exclude the captive screws in the bottom panel, HDD cage, and battery. I just did TIM today and it wasn't that bad.

Does applying your own TIM on the CPU/GPU void the warranty by the way? It's on my list of things to do when I receive my m11x.

As the above poster said, there's a video on YouTube of SSD install that I found with google.

Support.dell.com has a complete repair manual which includes step-by-step instructions.

Youtube has some videos as well.

    Search is your friend. ;)

I did it two days ago in order to change thermal paste too by following a video on youtube doing it. Is not so difficult but has some tricky parts. Just be sure you connect everything back correctly, i forgot to connect the power button base to the motherboard and got all stressed for some mins until i relaized that. Also it seems you can not switch the ram or it starts beeping ._.

Huh? I've switched out RAM countless times no problems.

You probably did not have it seated properly.

I actually found a few on Youtube, but they were too fast, or were for R1 or R2. Are those the same for R3? And I'm also looking for instructions, not purely a video, so thanks Arak for that tip, will check out the repair manual.

I actually prefer the hi-speed tear down videos. It's so much easier to pause and play at each step along the process as you need rather than waaaaaiting for them to get on to the nexxxxt step. This one is my favorite for the M11x.

    YouTube - ‪Alienware m11xR2 high speed modding‬‏

He's doing his TIM and installing a BT module.

You really only need to tear down the M11x once, maybe twice with guidance and thereafter it's cake.
