needing help deciding between the 2.

please only comment if you own or have exp. with ether choices.

if it wasnt for the sleep issues that ive read about id go for the Orochi, but that sounds pretty dam annoying, as i intend to use it wireless 99% of the time.

i do have a deathadder i shortened the cord on specifically for the M11x and i love it.... but im just looking for something wireless thats smaller and or more mobile.

    thanks in advance! :)

I got a Logitech Anywhere MX just 3 weeks ago when i first got my M11x, and i love it. I don't have to worry about any sort of a mousemat - It works on carpet, on my pants, on glass, hell it even works on a mirror.

Highly recommended if you can get a good price, my other recommendation is the Logitech Performance MX if you can find that on sale either. It uses the same dual laser.

I personally HATE Razer products, my brother went through 3 mice and 2 keyboards in 6 months, they don't last very long at all from my experience. They feel and look cheap.

thanks. thats pretty much the way im leaning so far.

    on a side note:

i love Razer stuff, ive had my OG Deathadder for over 5yrs now. i literally wore the feet off of it. all the Logitech mice/KBs i have seems to fail around 3yrs (could just be my luck?)

thats why i am seriously considering the Orochi. but Bluetooth??????? prob where the sleep issue is coming from

If you are gaming go with the MX, the orochi only has what 1200dpi i think? and the bluetooth isn't reliable

Orochi has 2000dpi wireless and 4000dpi wired.

just trying to get real life usage opinions/comments.

like "omg i hate the mouse, it eats thru batties in like 5 days"

stuff like that to help me make a decision on which one to buy

Well i've been using this for almost a month using the batteries that came with it and not had any issues yet. It probably gets 4-6 hours of use per day. It takes 2 AA batteries, but it can run on just 1 battery if it's too heavy for your liking.

I didn't install the software for it, i have no reason to. People have complained of battery life issues after installing the program, but the battery "meter" on the software gives you a rough estimation according to your past usage. So it's never accurate.

I've got the Anywhere MX some guy, and I really like it. I don't have any experience with Razer products but I've never had a problem with the Anywhere MX. It's got no noticeable lag or polling issues and it feels great in the hand and literally works on ANY surface! The little wireless nano receiver is tiny and you can store it under the base cover of the mouse when it's not in use.

It still looks as good as the day I got it and I'm sure that it will last for years of gaming abuse. Also, the batteries last forever!

Another vote for the Logitech Anywhere MX. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about the surface I use it on. Works great on glass surfaces!

I know this is not relevant but I bought the apple magic mouse because of the bluetooth connectivity (same as the orochi). I returned it right away because of the lag every 5 minutes and bought the anywhere mx instead, and let me tell you the difference is huge.
The Anywhere Mx is butter smooth (on the screen and physically), the build quality is great it just feels solid in your hands.

    Hope this helps :)

I've played with a LOT of mice over the past year... probably around 12 different models, including all of the mice mentioned in this thread so far.

    Razer Orochi ($70)

The best way to think about the Razer Orochi is that it is a small wired gaming mouse, that coincidentally happens to have a non-gaming Bluetooth mode. It is worth getting if you want a portable wired gaming mouse. It is not worth the money if you are planning on using it in purely wireless mode.

    * As a wired mouse, it has 4000dpi and up to 1000Hz / 1ms USB polling rate.

    * In wireless Bluetooth mode, it has up to 2000dpi and 125Hz / 8ms USB polling rate, plus a 3-second sleep timer. The Bluetooth sleep issue is not a big enough deal to affect productivity-based use (i.e. web browsing), but can be annoying in gaming. Batteries last for about 1 month of use (a few hours per day), and are not rechargeable within the mouse itself.

    * 2x AA alkaline batteries will tend to make the Razer Orochi heavy and rear-balanced. You can use 2x AA Lithium batteries to make the Razer Orochi lighter and center-balanced for more even drag performance over mousepads.

    Logitech Anywhere MX ($50)

This is a portable mouse for productivity-focused users. It is only worth the money if you are a highly mobile user that needs to be able to mouse anywhere without a mousepad (e.g. glass desks in hotel rooms, polished granite desks in airport lounges, etc).

If you are gaming, this is not the mouse to get. If you use your mouse on surfaces that can be tracked by regular optical or laser mice, then this is not the mouse to get.

    * DPI specifications are not published, but people estimate it to be ~1800dpi. USB polling rate is 125Hz / 8ms.
    * Batteries last for about 1-3 months, depending on use. Batteries are not rechargeable within the mouse body.

So, which mice SHOULD you get?

If you want a wireless gaming mouse, get the Logitech G700 ($75)

    * Operates in both USB wired and wireless modes. Full performance (5700dpi and up to 1000Hz / 1ms USB polling rate) in both wired and wireless modes.
    * Batteries last for about 2-3 days, and recharge within the mouse body itself (by plugging in the USB cable)
    * Uses the Avago S9500 laser imaging sensor, considered by most people to be the best laser imaging sensor you can find in a gaming mouse.
    * USB cable carries both data and charge, which means you can use it in areas with heavy 2.4Ghz wireless interference (near microwaves or LAN events with a lot of other people using wireless)

If you want a productivity mouse, get the Logitech M705 Marathon Mouse ($30).
    * Performance is "good enough" for productivity use (1200dpi, 125Hz / 8ms USB polling rate).
    * Small, compact size, with batteries that last pretty much forever.
    * It's cheap.

so im rockin the anywere mx right now and one fatal flaw may have me taking it back.

    the middle button/scroll wheel.... :(

i use the middle click for SO MANY things including CAD. the wheel set to click mode feels soo cheap and wobbly.

not to mention the middle click it on a totally different button...? dont get me wrong i love the free scroll mode idea. but not at the cost of having to relearn how to "use" a mouse... :(

i understand most ppl could care less about the scroll wheel & the middle click but i use it so much i dont think this is the mouse for me...

thanks for all the responses/comments guys. reps were passed out to those who were helpful! ;)

kent nailed everything pretty much on the nose

ive used both, however i only used my friends MX for a little bit and didnt like it for gaming (fps/rts/little mmo) . i tried and then bought the orochi as it was vastly superior gaming while wired and average using bluetooth.

the sleep mode is more annoying for rts not so much for fps since you usually are constantly moving the mouse.

battery usage is horrible, i game ALOT and using wireless it wont last 2 weeks for me.

overall as far as portable gaming mice go (g700 is an awsome mouse but i dont think it should be compared in the same class as the orochi/mx) i would have to choose the orochi. i bought my M11x to game anywhere i want, and bought the orochi to go with it. everything fits nice and compact with my books in my backpack and i dont loose a step. but like everyone said it really depends what you want, to be honest i dont think you can go wrong with either choice provided you buy it for what its intended for.

    thanks APLT. & Kent

i just came back fro a local Bestbuy, grabbed the Orochi for 69 open box. literally hadn't been used tho.

im glad i returned the anywere. idk if its just cuz im used to the feel of the Deathadder or what but the Orochi feels much better. the middle click and scroll wheel feel nice and solid.

aside from the sleep issue id say this is exactly what i wanted.

ill be buying some re-chargeables for this lil guy. ;)

thanks again for the input guys. really appreciate it!

Can acceleration be disabled in the Razer and/or the Logitech? Acceleration really messes with everything I like to do. :/

I had that issue at first also, but i promise you that it would have taken less than 48 hours for you to get used to the middle button. I now find myself trying to click the non-existent middle button on every other mouse i use, but the switching between hyper-scrolling is so useful I'm glad the button is separate.

i may have gotten used to it for just general browsing, but as much panning and zooming i do in ACAD i would have ending up hating the mouse anyway. i literary spend probably 35-40% of my mouse activity scrolling a clicking the middle click button. the free spin was cool, but not cool enough to have to learn new muscle memory on moving my index finger to a extra 3rd location. it would be the equivilant of telling a race car driver he now has to push a 4th pedal now every time he wants to turn the steering wheel...

IDK if you use ACAD but going back and fourth between the scroll wheel to the separate middle click button over and over seems stupid when all the other normal mice dont do this.

been using the Orochi for a lil over an hr now and feels like home.

Get yourself a 3D mouse and you'll never need the middle button or scroll wheel again in any CAD program. :p The "puck" is 6-axis and will do all your panning, zoomin, rotating, & moving without ever lifting a finger. Get the new beta drivers & it can even do web-page scrolling, mouse emulation, etc etc.

I've got 1 for work, 1 for home, & 1 for my M11X. I'll never CAD again without one.

The space pilot pro (The one pictured) is pretty expensive. $400(Retail). They can be had for about half that if you know where to look.

The SpaceNavigatorSE is much more affordable at around $99(retail, amazon shows them for less). They used to have a SpaceNavigatorPE for $50 but they discontinued them because they were the same thing as the SE but no one bought an SE at $50 more than the PE. (The only difference between the two was level of customer support. SE=Standard Edition, PE=Personal Edition)
3Dconnexion is an entity of Logitech (I believe Logi bought them out) so their newest products feel & look like logitech stuff.

You can probably pick up an older model off of ebay for $50 or less nowadays. Just make sure it's a 6-axis & not a 3-axis.

The Space Pilot Pro pictured has the same screen in it that the Logitech G19 keyboard has. It's the full color 320x240 display. In fact it even runs Logitech's LCD Manager software. G19 & G15 applets will also work on it. It comes in handy for things like outlook, RSS, & it also serves to show off which keys are mapped to what in your various CAD programs. Tho, I usually leave it on my custom Everest screen to show what's going on with my PC's resources. (Attached photo)

I have an Orochi and love it. Its a great mouse. My only issue is exactly what you have mentioned here - that is it does not work well on random surfaces other than that its great. I use it with a razer kabuto all the time anyway so this does not annoy me at all. I highly recommend it and it also suits the m11x really well (aesthetically).

As for batteries, i use it on a daily basis at school, maybe 1 - 3 hrs each day, and have only replaced the batteries 2 times in the past 5-6 months... so i think it does well on batteries.

Oh, one more thing... if you're deciding between Bluetooth and wireless i would definitely recommend the wireless. One thing i find with the mouse (while using Bluetooth) is that it performs horribly at distance. Works great within about 1 meter, after that performance and connectivity drops instantly and it is rubbish. Again, it will not annoy you, unless you're using it at a large distance.

So…. If you’re gonna game and want the brand name get the Orochi, if you want more functionality and ease of use get the Logitech (its probably cheaper as well). If you do get the Orochi i also recommend the razer Kabuto as it fits perfectly under the screen and lets the mouse work anywhere you want it :)

    Hope that helped.

Keep in mind that the Logitech warranty support blows Razer away.

    Logitech product broken? No problem!

Call in - 5 minute call (30 second queue)

They'll ship a replacement the same day via UPS and you'll receive it in 2-3 days. You can then mail the malfunctioning product back with a FREE return label.

(and the 2-3 day is from Texas, USA to Ontario, Canada! Super fast!)

Razer's warranty service? Pff...have fun with that :p

Was considering the MX Mouse until I came across this thread Doesnt seem like a mouse suitable for most of my gaming needs aside from perhaps turn based strategies.
Unfortunately I have NO luck at all with the Orochi. My 1st one's lens completely stopped working (would register R/L clicks only). Luckily I was able to return it for exchange and $10 back (due to a price drop). Same thing happened it's replacement a few weeks ago. Been using a Naga with my M11x in the meantime. Have a G700, but I honestly dont care for full sized Mice with the compact form of the M11x.

Ever consider the G9X by Logitech? It's less than half the weight of the G700 and is very easy to pack up and carry. Out of all the 7~ gaming mice I tried, it's my favourite mouse of all time. I used to have the G700, but it's too heavy and bulky, so I sold it on craigslist.

Reason I like the G9X the most is because I HATE dragging my hand/arm up/down/left/right on the mouse pad. With the G9X, all you need is a corner of the mouse pad since you can lift it with your mouse hand and never have to move it allover the mouse pad.

I tried, I failed, Razer is never getting my custom again.

Seeing as my Orochi was a birthday present though, I'm less sore on that point, works very nicely for me but I always use it wired.
