Hi all.
I have an m11x r1 which apart from a few teething issues when i first got it really has served me well but i find i now need some help.
Somehow or other i arent sure how i have got some dirt trapped on the inside of the lcd screen and i need to get in there to clean it up.
Now i have stripped my m11x to absolute bits before and so dont mind getting my hands dirty so to speak but i have no idea how to remove the lcd screen from the back panel. I have looked at the service manual and it doesnt go as far as to tell you how to do this.
This dirt is very annoying and i have to go at it so can anyone tell me what i need to do in real basic step by step baby like instructions?
I know a few of you out there have made some ultra mad mods to the m11x and so if any of you can explain what i need to do then that would be mucho appreciated.
thanks.

OK, to remove the cover from the LCD, you need not take the laptop apart
First, remove the power button cover
Next you need to pop the bottom of the hinge covers (the round parts) I push a screw driver in there and gently pry up. next you need to put a flat screw driver on either side of the lcd at the bottom, this will pop those sides up. Next you need to pop the bottom center (under the alienware logo)
The cover is held to the lcd screen with double sided tape, pull very slow and carefully, if you pull too fast or hard you will crack the lcd. Once you have that all out it should just slide down.
So to recap
Bottom of the screen is all pop clips.
Double sided tape around the whole LCD panel
Top slides in. -
thanks for the real quick reply mate.
getting at the screen at problem i can take the laptop to pieces with my eyes shut but the screen hmmm now it just seems a tad complicated. although you have explained it very well until i get it stripped down and look at it i arent really sure what you are saying. however i reckon once i get started i should be able to follow your guide.
so to recap in my own words so i have this right.
i pop the black plastic bit at the bottom of the screen first (at either end and in the middle) and once this has been removed gently peel the screen from the panel which is held on with tape? and hey presto i have access to the inside of the lcd screen?
if that is right can i ask how easy is it to put back together? in your experience did you reuse the tape already there or apply some new stuff? -
The tape gets destoryed when you pull it off, but thats ok, its not needed to hold it in, but it does keep more dust from getting in there.
Here is a video that is a little better than my jibberish of a response

You can clean the tape residue after and buy a roll of thin 3M double sided tape to replace it

thanks a lot lads. will check that out tomorrow when i have some time. thanksfully the tv has built in youtube so i will be able to take ther screen apart while watching it so that will come in very very handy.
will let you know how i get on.
just one final thing what do you mean 3M tape? that seems like... well rather large! i am in the uk if that helps and we use metric measurements here. -
3M is a company here in the US (actually based a few miles from my house)
They made double sided foam tape.

Check out your local auto parts store, or any auto body shop should have what you need.
