So I'm a moderate gamer and I have a large library but I also like the mobility of a laptop but I'm not a fan of poor performance since I tried to use a external HDD to store and launch my Steam library so I figured that's not the best option. Is there any way to replace the internal HDD for something bigger than the one I have on my M11x?

Sure, you can out a 1tb 2.5" sata HD or 1/2 TB SSD in the r1 with no problems.

Okay I'd more likely go for the 1TB HD, what steps should i take before I put it in? I don't have an original recovery disc.

Create a recovery media or a cloned image of your HDD.

Remove old put in new and your done.. Google sad tweaks to make a few changes within your OS to take adverting of the SSD and optimize it.
