    Hi all,

I remember reading somewhere here that Dell offers the option to have your item replaced after there have been three repairs made to the system. Is this true and if so, where can I find this information?

I'm about to phone to get a 3rd repair (1st : hd, 2nd : hinge/lcd). Now my hd again is failing. Also, my battery is unrecognized at times, so I can't charge somtimes. I do not have much faith in my system for the future and I don't want to see the lappy broken after my warranty expires.

    Thanks for any info!

My system was 'repaired' more than 10 times prior to replacement, every time i requested one i was denied due to no mobo issues. - finally got one due to bsod on graphics switch.

My system was repaired three times (twice for the LCD, once for the keyboard) and then I got a replacement. It took a while to come and has some very minor issues (a small bit of bubbled paint), but the build quality is a lot better than my original. Dell Japan had really great customer service throughout my repairs and replacement.

I was the original poster about this. This is what the Dell in home tech said after stripping an internal screw during a panel replacement. Which would cause it to have to be sent in to the factory. He explained the policy then.

The Dell rep he called into tried to dissuade me, but I stayed firm without breaking my cool, and got a full brand new replacement 2 weeks later. I'm more happy with the build and panel PQ on the new one.

I think it's something that's not advertised, unless you count the fine print on warranty, so unless you know about it, it's not offered.

Try it. Tell them that you know it's Dell's policy and within the warranty rights and you know from others in threads like these that Dell is honoring this policy.

Make sure to clarify that you want new and Refurbished is not acceptable with the current hinge issue.

    It'll take 10 days to 2 weeks.

It's definitely true. I have the proof right in front of me.

Get an exchange. While I've had frustrations with it, I've fallen in love with it all over again due to it's size and power, after playing with my wife's IPad for a few weeks, and realizing how much more you can get done and powerfully game on this machine. Plus it's sleek as Hell.

You can definitely get an exchange after a 3rd service call.

    Go for it.

    Ok, update on this:

Called, dell rep stated that this option was only available after the 3rd repair, while technically it was my third repair. Don't find any of this in the fine print, so I couldn't push for the replacement.

Repair was done, they replaced the hard disk and the lcd.

Now, two weeks later my video card seems broken. When I boot the laptop seems to start. However, there is nothing on the screen and I keep getting six error beeps. Now, the dell tech claims that there have to be "three repairs on the same issue for a recplacement to be given".

I bought the laptop 9 months ago. First had a harddisk replaced, then the lcd panel, last time the harddisk and battery. Now they want to replace the motherboard and lcd panel.

I want a replacement. Told the tech to not schedule a repair yet, I first have to think if I'm willing to accept another repair.
