Do any of you play Rift on your M11x?

I'm getting disappointing frame rates in the game, topping out at about 20fps, but averaging 11-18fps. I don't have it on ultra settings, and all the settings that warn me of an extreme GPU or CPU intensive usage, I have completely turned off.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand the relationship between the Intel HD graphics (which I see in my system tray) and my graphics card. Regardless, I went into my nVidia settings and went through the process of manually setting my 3D settings to "High Performance NVIDIA processor".

Not only did not seem to make a difference, I think it may have slowed things down a bit.

Is there anything in the nVidia control panel I need to mess with? Does anyone have any settings outside of the game I need to adjust?

Thanks very much in advance for any help.

Ok I just changed my settings to "low quality render" and my framerate hasn't really changed.

    There must be something wrong.

i play rift and its the same....

i normaly use the low quality render, but even when im on a rift or world event i get 7 FPS, and when im alone, w/o any rift near i get 30fps maximum with everything low exept the textures details, spell details, view and object distance.

it is really disappointing and dont know how to fix it, i have the game on the whitelist and custom settings for preformance and nothing changes

What driver though? There are problems with most games 260.99 and above. And some even with 260.99. Try the Dell ones. And if you are using Dell ones I am not sure.

This is most disturbing, I was thinking of trying the game out. LOTRO runs like a champ on ultra (med shadows) 1600x900. I am running stock dell drivers for the R2. I'll have to keep on eye on this to make sure that it's not something silly that is going on with the drivers. Best of luck!

I am running Rift on my M11x R2 at 30-40fps... all the time.

I am not using the low quality renderer, and i run the graphics at LOW...

I use 266.58, latest whql drivers fron nvidia, and i am running Rift on the high performance video adapter (nvidia) according to optimus.

    Hope it helps

Phew, good to hear that this thing can get it's game on with a modern MMO. Great news guys. Glad to hear it's an isolated case. Maybe caused by dust(Over heating will cause throttling)?

Sure it's possible, but unless you live in a sandpit, I would check other things first.

Make sure that you are not running in "balanced" or "power save" mode - set the system up to run in high performance mode.

Next, make sure Rift is white listed - right click on the desktop, choose Nvidia control panel and then in the 3d settings, add Rift.exe to the list of programs and make sure it is set to use Nvidia as the graphics card.

Those would be the things I'd check first.

I'm definately running this on high settings. and i havent felt any lag or and no fps drops. seriously it runs flawlessly for me. I was tempted to try ultra. but i figure performance is important for mmo's so i stuck with high settings. can't give u exact fps but it definitely runs really well.

    News Flash:

Rift is a fairly detailed game AND it's an MMO. People have trouble getting 30+fps in WoW with decent settings (in raids and such) so I don't know why it's surprising to you that RIFT is killing the machine.

My wife runs it on her M11x R1 with low quality rendering and low/medium settings depending on if she's questing or rifting and probably 30fps max. These machines are NOT going to run it any better than that.

If your machine isn't handling it, you probably need to wipe it and reimage. I wouldn't waste my time with Dell. Cleaning out the fan and silly stuff like that isn't going to help - you need to clean up the software environment.

Hey guys, I picked up Rift the other day. I have an overclcoked i7 R2. I have the power set to performance.

I get under 30 fps on medium settings. I'm just wondering if anyone else out there playing Rift has gotten it to run better? I've heard of throttlestop and overclocking the GPU...

If that's just the way it is, then no biggie. But I feel like I'm missing something.

I have an r1 and cpu gpu are overclocked but i get pretty poor performance. I can run it on high with select settings turned down and get 20-30fps depending on the area. Definatly overclock your gpu using afterburner or evga precision, it will get you an extra 5-10 fps depending on the clock and the game.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I should be specific and say that the fps hovers around 30, but dips down to 25 and lower often. Thanks for the tip cryfreedom66, I'll look into one of those.

Tried both afterburner and evga. I just ramped everything up and there was no noticeable difference in FPS. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I am pretty layman when it comes to PC's, especially when tinkering with specs... Any more help is greatly welcomed. Thanks guys.

You probably cant just ramp everything up it may have just reset your clock...

Try to set your clocks to what I have mine (in the signature) and give it a try. Make sure you hit apply, then hit ctrl 1 to save the profile. Once you do this enter the settings, go to the profile tab towards the bottom you should see "3d profile" make sure that it is set to profile 1. Should see some improvements...

Ahem...Those numbers in your sig, the 525, is that be the values that are synced? The the 850 the memory overclock, is that correct? Thanks for being patient and helping out. If I'm right on that, I'll try it out and let you know.

For the GPU, I maximized each value independently. With it synced, I was restricted by my shader clock. I'm not sure what the consequences of unsyncing the clocks though.

    My values are:
    540 Core Clock
    1280 Shader Clock
    905 Memory Clock

yes the core and shader sync together so increase the core to 525 and the mem to 850. Unlike the poster above me I was unable to clock past my current clocks without instability (tested using occt). If you want to go higher than I am suggesting than I recommend small increments and testing. I was clocked at 550/900 and was playing dragon age 2 fine after 15 minutes or so my screen locked up and my gpu would underclock (reset itself under the default speeds) so I would restart and gradually lower my overclock until it no longer did this. Takes ALOT of trial and error and everyones machines perform differently.

Are you overclocking your cpu? If not thats a whole nother story especially with the r2

Yeah just took a look myself. according to Rift I'm only getting 16 fps but it feels a lot more than that. Even in a big invasion it was still very playable so maybe the best advice I can offer is not tomget too hung up on a number - just play.

I just ran rift on my m11x R1 on ultra defaults and got fps of 17-20. On medium i usually hover around 25-30. My m11x is pretty much stock build with the bios OC enabled, and 6GB of ram. I do have the latest Nvidia drivers from the dell site.

With an external display via HDMI my fps dropped between 9-18 on med-high settings.
