Hey everyone,
I didn't want to post in the old SC2 thread because it seemed really dead and outdated.
So I've been trying to achieve a stable amount of frames (somewhere in the 30s) for when big battles occur, I tend to play a lot of 3v3 and 4v4s.
I have the textures, shaders, and shadows set to medium while everything else is the lowest; the game still looks good.
It might be just me but even when I OC the hell out of my GPU, I don't seem to get a huge FPS improvement, I was hoping maybe it at least helps to when the frames drop due to big battles and keep them stable at least.
Or is SC2 too much of a CPU-dependent game?

SC2 is a CPU dependent game. OCing the GPU doesn't affect the game much.
- You could try OCing your CPU through the BIOS.
- You could try throttlestop and see if that increases your performance.
- You could try updating your nvidia graphics drivers.
If you've done all that already, well... aside from Dell updating their drivers, looks like that's as fast as it's gonna get. -
If you OC your CPU, don't forget that it will actually DECREASE performance unless you modify the CPU power limits with throttlestop.
-
Could you tell me why? BTW is that R1 or R2 your talking about?
P.S: Im using R1 and always OC via bios when playing SC2 -
Blizzard actually did something quite cool in the Graphics options tool tips. If you actually hover you're mouse over each setting you will see what part of you're system it effects, say for example you have Ultra textures but you're post-processing is lacking. That probably means you have a good graphic card and a lesser CPU, meaning it would be more effective to overclock the CPU in that situation.
Hope that helps. -

It's the R2 he's talking about with the Core i series cpu's. The reason why is when the turbo boost kicks in and goes to a much higher clock rate which also requires a much higher power draw. Dell set the tdp/tdc settings to where they use minimal power to increase battery life, but when the cpu is truly stressed with turbo boost kicked in the power they set to give it isn't enough so it throttles. With throttlestop you can set the tdp/tdc settings higher to give it true full power when under stress. Hope this helps you understand a bit better. -
yeah i actually set everything that said CPU require to med - high, some low or off, and things that require GPU to high - ultra.
But i could not understand why roxxor said that CPU OC = performance decrease. Maybe he's talking bout the R2 ...
Edit: thanks DaneGRClose i got it now! Now i fully understand why ppl said that before throttlestop, R2 even worse than R1 in SC2

On my R1 I have everything that uses the cpu to off/low and everything gpu to ultra.
Runs great except in very large 3v3 and bigger matches.
SC2 - Does OCing GPU have a huge effect?
