I just realized I can't boot clonezilla off of my USB drive because the BIOS doesn't give me that option.

Anyone have any ideas how I can copy my current HD onto my SDD 1:1?? Or maybe make the USB recognizable on the BIOS.

    I'm on an R2

note* - the bios only gives me the option of hard drive for boot order.

A USB drive should be bootable on the M11x - I have booted off of a USB stick before. Make sure that Legacy USB mode is enabled in the BIOS, and that you hit F12 during the POST screen to select the boot device.

As for copying the HD to the SSD - you could always try mounting both drives in another compouter, and copying there, if the M11x doesn't work.

I still don't come up with the option to boot from the usb, my bios is InsydeH20 and there is no legacy usb option =\

Make sure the USB drive is plugged in before you boot. When you boot press F12 and choose your USB drive. It might even show the name of the device. if it doesn't show up that might because the drive inst being recognized. Try the left hand USB port. I seem to have better luck with that on one of my Thumb Drives.

    I mean "USB Emulation".

Go into Bios --> Advanced. It should be the 3rd item down the list.

Make sure the USB drive is plugged into the M11x and powered up before you turn on the laptop.

If that still does not work, then my guess is that for some reason, your USB drive is quirky and isn't beign recognized by the BIOS. Do you have another device, like a USB memory stick, that you can use to test and see if that would be recognized by the BIOS?

Okay, I turned all that on & thank you, the problem was the USB, it wouldn't recognize it.

I put clonezilla on another USB and it recongnized it, now I'm at a stand still. I book with clonezilla (unetbootin) and now I don't know what to do.

    e;\
this stuff is starting to scare me.

my setup is the m11x, a usb drive, & a usb hard drive.

I want to clone C: to the USB HDD and I got to selecting a source HDD but I couldn't get any further than that.

e;\ this didn't quite work out the way I wanted, found some tutorials - I made img. files not actual 1:1 as I wanted =\

e;\ oh and what I'm trying to do is clone my disk 1:1 so I can then just swap out the hard drive with my SSD and run as usual.

Clonezilla is pretty powerful, but honestly it's not the most newb friendly option out there. You might have an easier go with the 30 day, fully functional trial of Acronis TrueImage 2010. Works flawlessly and it can't get any simpler than the wizard that steps you through the cloning process.

Just remember to pick the Boot Partition as well in Arconis. It will be the 100 meg Partition or just choose all three to keep your Restore Partition as well. I forgot the Boot Partition and ended up just doing a clean install. :) Good Luck

Its a 30 day Free Trial. When you go through the process you will have the ability to choose what partitions you want to backup. To make it easy just choose them all to make an exact copy of your existing drive.

Be sure that you're using Acronis's Clone feature under the Tools & Utilities menu.
