Some questions about SSD in a M11x

    1. Does anyone have any Crystal Mark benchmarks for a SSD on the M11x?
    2. Do SSDs generally run well on the M11x R1?
    3. Is it recommended to run the SSD in ACHI mode?

Yea ssd ACHI is the way to go. The bench mark for the r1 and r2 should be similar. HDs performance is not usually based on CPU performance. But if someone wants chime in on that please feel free!

Well I know its not based on the CPU performance but I know it has to do with the actual "chipset" like the M17x Intel chipset has major issues with SSDs I was kinda wondering if the M11x was the same way?

I have a 256GB SSD that went from my R1 and is now in my R2 with no problems

OCZ Vertex 96GB in a R2, ACHI mode. Slowed down a bit but still plenty fast:

Hmmm no read/write over 200 MBs? Thats pretty bad performance from a SSD seems worse then the M17x R2 SSD issue.....

You're talking about sequential read speeds. Sequential read speeds are pretty irrelevant to the performance of an SSD. The only reason people quote them is because they are big numbers, and big numbers look impressive.

Most of the disk activity that you do with your drive (loading OS, applications, games) relies on random reads of small files. The number that matters is Random 4KB read times, NOT the big-number sequential read times.

    To answer your original questions:

    2. Do SSDs generally run well on the M11x R1?

Yes. SSD's make any computer load and feel smoother- from the slowest Atom-based netbooks to the fastest Core i7 desktops.

    3. Is it recommended to run the SSD in ACHI mode?

Yes. You need AHCI to support TRIM and NCQ, both of which are vitally important to top performance of your SSD.

    1. Does anyone have any Crystal Mark benchmarks for a SSD on the M11x?

If you want to save yourself about a dozen hours of research, just buy an OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD for 200 bucks. All of the research you will do will likely lead you to the conclusion that the OCZ Vertex 2 is the drive to get. So you might as well just cut to the chase, and get that one.

Thanks for the info! I ended up getting the G.Skill Phoenix Pro 120GB because I got it on sale for $170 shipped. I have read good things about this SSD as well so hopefully its solid.
