Ok all.. it's time for something that hasn't been posted and reposted many times. Lets talk about game performance... Comparison SSD vs 8gb Ram drive.

So if you are a M11x Owner and have 8gb ram and a SSD...would you be willing to install Ramdrive and load a small but benchmarkable game such as BFBC2 or Something Similar? Ram Drive can be found here...

Download RAM-Drive - RAM-Drive allows you to have another drive running from RAM (Random Access Memory) that runs faster then the hard drive. - Softpedia

I am sure some will say you wont see an impact in FPS but you shouldn't assume that until it's proven. A good ssd reads @200-240, A ramdrive can read at 10 times that depending on system. I dont have 8gb ram only 4. If I had a game small enough or if someone can suggest one that is both recent, taxing on the system and small I would be willing to give it a try.

Anyone else interested to see what the results would be? I can tell you that ARMA 2 folks already do this and see huge results...

    Best Wishes, StevenX

I'm interested in this as well. I'm cheap and only went for 4gb. It's a shame you cant use to WWAN slot for a 64gb SSD.

Oh, and about the software....I am assuming that anything loaded in the "ramdrive" will be volatile once the system is shut down, or will it remain in ram as long as the ram has power connected to it?

It would be volatile. Unless someone created an application to automatically move data to the ramdrive on boot and then save to the hd on shutdown.
That has a whole myriad of issues involved though.

I believe (if I understood the ARMA guys correct) that you only allow wndows 7 access to say 2gb ram and then the rest is reserved 6gb +/- for game folders.

I should have posted some of the links I found when you google ARMA ramdrive. I am traveling now but will post some more when I get to a more stable location. Take Care, Stevenx
