Weelllll.... Yeah, pretty much. I still plan on keeping my r1 (got a few weeks ago) but hell, I guess I'll wait for the r4 when it get released.

What is sandy bridge going to give us? Smaller nano tech and slight increase in performance (~17%)? If Im missing something please tell me, but until they offer an ati card, CULV quad core or battery life like my r1 I just dont see a reason to "upgrade". I have to say after over a month Im in love with this notebook and segment, and I definitely plan on getting another one if they keep to the standard they have now. I do wish they made or will make a matte version though.

Just exactly how much better will this Sandy Bridge thing be?

From what I read its ~17% faster and since it uses a smaller process it should be a little better on heat and battery life.

Is that specifically the laptop version one?

We don't know yet how overclockable it is yet. I wouldn't be surprised if a 2657M @ stock gets outperformed by the current i7 640UM @ 166Mhz in CPU benchmarks. Although being able to finally use memory at full speed is really really nice (and will make a difference in real-world applications).

Hopefully Intel doesn't limit the OCing on the Sandy Bridge laptop CPUs like they're doing for the desktop ones. That's the main reason why I'm just going to skip Sandy Bridge and wait for intel's next gen chip.

Yes. As for real world increases, I believe that has yet to be determined.

I don't know about you, but I've never considered an almost 20% jump "slight".

When those 20% are theoretical, I consider them "slight". You guys know that these values are always exaggerated and never apply to real-world use.

I'll wait for "real world use" then.. is it actually possible to "upgrade" your M11X? I only got my M11XR2 i5 3GB RAM in late November, and if this new CPU is really good compared to the i5 I wouldn't mind an upgrade.

@sparhawk - your desktop is a serious beast anyway. Your going to smoke the SB's so I wouldn't even bother. BW, StevenX

Me too. The sandybridge shrink will bring 4 cores to ULV chips. Now that's a reason to upgrade.

    No. It's effectively soldered.

I think theyve decided to keep the graphics clock gen on the same clock as the cpu and ram to simplify things from now on out, i dont think its gonna change later on.

i would take a wild stab and say maybe around 15% faster give or take but prob even less battery life than the R2 and posible loss of over clocking... not to mention more $$$

    im good with the R1...
