I bought an m11x r3 from DELL and I noticed scratches on the alien skull as well as the plastic plate in the front. Is this normal, or do you think they gave me a used one?

It is not normal, new means mind, mint means scratchlesss.

Call em up for a talk... Unless you've got like a refurbished one or something, there shouldn't be any scratches...

There should be no scratches unless it is used/reconditioned. The machine should come with peel away plastic covers for the places you describe. Mine had them. Mine also had no scratches. I would say dell has some explaining to do.

Okay thanks. The thing is, I bought it about 2 months ago. Do you think they would still replace it or is it too late?

I would think its a little late to expect Alienware to do anything, this should have been taken care of immediately after receiving it. Two months of ownership is enough time for a system to get some wear and could've been caused by you for all they know.

No doubt you haven't removed the 'Protective' plastic.

If you notice scratches or any nicks or anything you even slightly don't like or are concerned about, call up Dell asap.

You payed good money for this laptop and you don't want to shrug it aside when you deserve top-notch service and equipment.

I agree: you havent removed the plastic sheets yet. Go check before calling Dell and getting into an awkward moment.
