Screen cable broken, laptop wont turn on heeeelp plz!

My issue is I have an m11x that had the broken screen hinge, it was still working but the cable connected to the back of the display pannel got ripped out and bent.

Ive opened the screen, unscrewed it and plugged the cable back in but the laptop just shuts off when i do that. If i take the cable out I can turn it back on.
The laptop did work with an external monitor but I stupidly updated my video drivers and cant get an image on any external monitor now :/

I have no idea what to try next, plz help :S

 

You need to replace the lcd cable - clearly there is a break in it now which is shorting out the board when connected. If you continue to try to use it you could cause more damage.
If your hinge is broken as well my recommendation would be to buy a new full LCD assembly as it will be cheaper than buying the cable and the lid seperately.

 

Are lcd connectors that expensive? Im fine with the lid being broken I just need to get an image for a bit. Is there a way to find out what kind of connector id need? Its an m11x r1

 

They can be quite expensive the cables yes - the part you need is universally compatible with the R1, R2 and R3 there was no difference between the screen connectors in these models. Part number is 0F8W3Y, try and buy a new one - the used ones are not always working given the majority of these so called "salvage" parts places rip the laptops apart with such force that they end up damaging these delicate items and then listing them as working.

im not sure if its long enough since most of the other cables with this title look alot longer, I still have to take apart my laptop to see what mine looks like but im hesitant to do that.

Would the broken hinge repair that dell offers cover a broken cable since its a direct result of my hinges breaking. It would be annoying if I spent money on the cable if it was covered.
My laptop is past warranty.
