I updated the Firmware to SD24 on this and now I am having connection issues. The bios randomly stops seeing the drive. So sometimes when I power up I get the good old "No Bootable Device" error or when I do have it powered up my system will reboot and get the No bootable device error.

    Any Ideas?

Ouch. All I can tell you is that I've updated to SD24 (almost a week ago?) and haven't had any problems. I'm not really sure how I'd start troubleshooting that beyond testing the drive on another system to see if it has intermittent connection issues as well. If you haven't already, check out the Seagate forums too.

Let us know if you figure it out and good luck.

Just a thought, but make sure the hard drive is at the top of your boot order in BIOS. I had this very problem with my M1210 after Dell replaced the HDD. Turns out that "Diskette Drive" was enabled as a boot device but not the hard drive!

Thats the thing. If I go into the Bios. Next to SATA Hard Drive it says "Not Detected" But if I reboot, it boots into windows fine. I let my laptop run all day. It was fine till about a hour ago where it was sitting on the Ethernet boot screen. I have to grab my old Momentus HD and see if it might be the Motherboard. Ill keep you posted.

I honestly cant figure out is going on. So I took the plunge and got a Intel SSD. Then I am going to just sell this drive. This is also my work latptop so I cant take the chance of it just dying and never booting up. Plus it takes 14 days turnaround for the drive to get back from Seagate.

Today is the last day to take advantage of the $35 rebate on the X25-M 120GB SSD. I should have it by Tuesday. Hopefully that solves my issues.

Something very similar happened to me today. I shut my lid (set not to sleep) and was carrying it with me to someone else's desk. Stopped back at my desk, opened up the lid and it was sitting at the netboot screen. Forced reboot and it came up fine.

I don't think that free fall protection kicked in while I was carrying it about and I'm not sure how it rebooted itself. Nothing in the event logs. Very strange.

Hi, i just bought a Momentus Xt 500 gb, i transfer the old drive to the new one using seagate disc wizard. the computer with the momentus xt boots normally, but then starts to freeze, i need to shutdown the computer via power button and then power up again, this is the six time i tried to write this thread...i tried upgrading the firmware of the drive to the new one, but that doesnt fix the problem (Firmware SD24), i want to know if someone have the same problem, and or how to fix it please.

Thats exactly what is happening and has only got worse. up to twice a day now. If you would have warm booted and went into the Bios you would have seen no drive detected. If I Cold boot it will come right back up. I just got my Intel SSD in today so I will RMA the XT since I do believe its a issue with the firmware. Just debating on clean installing or imagine over.

I have a momentus XT in my M11x R1, but 320GB. No probs so far, am on SD23. You say you transferred everything from the old drive, so I assume you did a disk copy. While this shouldn't be a problem it might be.

The pausing of the momentus xt is normally only associated with macbooks.

    1) Have you tried to do a clean install again?

    2) What does SMART monitoring say?

    3) If SMART is showing irregularities you need to RMA the drive.
If SMART is ok, do you have another PC to plug the drive into to see if this happens in any other PC?

    4) If this behaviour happens in other PC, RMA the drive.
If HDD is ok in other PC, its defo your laptop (assuming clean install of win 7 didn't help)

Do clean install!!! Dont imagine over! Due to the nature of SSD's its best to do clean install. Remember the SSD has to do 'garbage collection' otherwise known as TRIM. TRIMming is easier if new install. The old install is likely not optimized for the new SSD (especially because you're transferring from an HDD to an SSD). AND Windows 7 needs different drivers and routines for SSD than HDD eg disable defrag, activate TRIM etc which would be done upon clean install.

Just happened again. Was carrying it around like I always do, sat down to show my boss some of the photos from the last shoot, opened it up and it was sitting at the netboot screen. This never happened with SD23. Time to research whether or not this is firmware related.

I think I will hold off on the firmware update. I have never had the issues you describe either.

Yeah I've just been reading some stuff on the official Seagate website forums and it seems more and more ppl are having problems with SD24. Everything seems fine for a couple of days and then the performance inexplicably deteriorates. May be a firmware issue?
Anyway, I'm sticking to the golden rule of computing: "Never change a winning system"

As Stain said, dont update the firmwire... I read in other pages about issues when updating the firmwire..
