Jus bought r1 basic with 2 gigs. Should i jus send it back and order an i5 model with 4 gigs for 150.00$ more?? im more concerned with long lasting battery as i am a security guard dat does 12 hour graveyard shift. I will be using my new m11x for school (basic college papers, online homeworks, etc) and gaming. Gaming taking the spotlight here :) so is the upgrade worth it?? Input from experienced m11x users welcome. Thank you for your time

If battery is your main concern, then stick with the R1. It has about 2+ hours on the R2.

    2nd vote for R1

to noodle9527: your looking for a "R2" click that on the left side when browsing Dell outlet.

The R1 is great. I have one and absolutly love it. I play Civ 5 and WoW on it mainly and it does an amazing job. I ordered the base unit too and actually just ordered 8gb of RAM from newegg along with the Intel 6200 n wireless card. However, it does a shockingly great job just with the base specs!

I went with a refurbished R1 which, not to confuse the matter even more, is also an option if you want to get a fantastic, portable gaming laptop for about $500.

I would keep the R1 I would not want to rely on Optimus to switch graphic cards. There also seems to be more issues with r2 and drivers.. Im sure they will get it right sooner or later but the R3 will probly be out by then..

i don't think that you'll get more than 3 hours or so gaming on either laptop... i hope that that isn't too bad for what you want. but aside from that, r1 will probably fare better than the r2 in battery life. as with driver issues well... i'm pretty sure that even though the r2 has problems with the gpu drivers, they can be worked around somewhat... the r1 has to take what it can get (idk i never owned one but i've heard that). the 2 gb is a little low for gaming but buying from newegg is cheaper newayz... and yes avoiding the optimus issues is probably handy... you will get more fps if you OC and use TS with r2 (but if you don't mind less frames per second it's w/e... personally i care because i don't want to lose when the game is getting laggier). but yeah, if you're just going to sell it and buy the r3 you're probably making out better (but sad for your bro lols, just don't tell him about the r3 haha!)
